Mancrush: Schwarzenegger

Say what you want about the terminator, but he's a swell dude. (wait don't laugh--for real I'm serious!!!)

I've watched his carreer with interest over the years. I don't always agree with him, but he strikes me as the political equivalent of Barack Obama. He is an eternal optimist. He's bipartisan without pandering. His politics are rooted in a desire to see America and Americans succeed--all americans, not one team or the other beat the other down. He's old school. What can I say? I love the guy. Seeing him on meet the press last week(pt1) only confirmed this(pt2) for me. He managed to say nice things about Bush without seeming coy or sounding like a hack. He's the governer of the greatest state in the union. Yeah, you heard me right, THE GREATEST.

He's the best kind of surrogate John McCain could hope for. He's only about 1000X smarter than people give him credit for. And if you watch this interview, you'll see that his command of the English language is not only better than you thought, but infinitely better than George "all the Mandelas are dead" Bush.

He's married to one of Obama's biggest endorsers.

Is her endorsement bigger because she's a Kennedy, or because she's the terminator's husband? You decide. Either way, if I could buy stock in people, I would buy it in this guy. Too bad he's not a real American in the eyes of the constitution.

When did Maria Shriver turn into a vampire?

The "swell" part of your initial sentence - was that swelling from all the steroids?

I've always liked Ahnold, even before he was a big movie star and then my governator (I used to lift weights).  I believe that a politician can be much stronger if their career and self-worth are not entirely dependent on politics.  I.e., he cares about holding office, but not to the point of compromising his integrity.  He has been strong and progressive on the environment AND on animal welfare issues--I would put my money on Schwarzenegger to make progress on environmental and climate issues much sooner than I would Obama, sadly.

My favorite quote:  In October 2007, Schwarzenegger defended smoking a joint in his 1975 Pumping Iron film, saying "[Cannabis] is not a drug.  It's a leaf."  Medical marijuana is legal in California, of course.

I wish more Republicans (and Democrats) were like Arnold.  If he ran for President, I would consider voting for him.

Thanks for the link to MTP--I will watch those clips ;)

Ahnold is doing public service, which is partly what I mean by old school. What a contrast to the rest of the republican party.
