The VP well is drying up quick for the Democrats

Jim Webb politely asked Obama to "taste his ass" when it comes to the VP spot today. Another one bites the dust...

Can anyone remember any other election cycle where so many VP picks have flatly told the candidate "Hell No, Thank You!"? Webb is out. Strickland is out. Clark for all intents and purposes is out. Clinton has been muted and most likely is out thanks to Mrs. Obama. CNN and MSNBC are both reporting that some Dems are whispering John Kerry's name as a VP choice - Please Dems DO IT!!!! Who remains that would be any good? Richardson? Edwards? TYT personal favorite Sam Nunn? Any thoughts, friends? :)

Jim Webb had problems with hitting on women, so he may want to prevent Obama from having to deal with that.  I don't think he was ever top pick though.

Wes Clark should remain on the list.

I heard another name bandied about recently, but can't remember who it was.

Since you're a former Edwards and Obama supporter who said he would never vote for McCain this hatred for the Dems is mighty confusing.

For the VP question, I still like Clark, and (I know it's the longest shot of all time) but Tim brought up Wexler awhile ago and seeing him on shows pimping his book recently has me pretty well sold.

I like Kerry more now that he's grown his balls back.

Kerry and Gore both became great politicians after losing the Presidency.

Spencer, I think bobo was employing the old "establish credibility and gain acceptance" ploy on this forum in hopes that he could be taken seriously instead of being mocked as a concern troll.  Unfortunately for both bobo and McCain, we can go back and look at their past words.  Thanks for keeping bobo's past words (lies?) front and center.

I know, I know, he's not murkin enough.

Physician, health care reform movement leader, former two-term Oregon governor.  Has a record of pragmatic but progressive governance.  In his gubernatorial campaigns, he even got lots of votes in Eastern Oregon (redneck rancher country), even though he's a progressive.  That tells me he'd appeal to folks in other western states including Nevada and Colorado.

He is great!  I don't know any other western governor with a better grasp of environmental issues and politics (see link).  But he is too west-coast leftie to help Obama in my opinion.  No name recognition outside of Oregon either.  I wish we could have someone like this, but sadly I don't think he would be in the running.  Dems are also looking for a potential future president.

That's honestly a name I have never heard - I am interested to read about him. Thanks for your input!! :)

there's lots of choices that aren't on your list...and I also disagree, Wesley Sr. should be in the running, the mini-tempest will be long forgotten, such is the short attention span of The Stupid Tawking Heads...

What about McCain, Bobo, huh?  I'm real worried about him and who he's gonna choose for VEEP, tawk about a drying up well, anybody McCain picks will make some part of the Repugs unhappy....Crist (is he gay?), Jindahl (Devil, BE GONE!), whats his name is pro-choice, etc. etc. etc.

So many other repugs have ethics problems and lots of Repug Senator seats are threatened....if I were the Repugs that would worry me alot!!!

No worries about drying wells, climb on a float and soak in the sun...green grass and high tides forever and all that

To talk about McCains choices because all of you are convinced that he has absolutely no chance at winning - McCain could pick Jesus Christ Himself and it wouldn't matter to you guys! But for arguments sake, I'll say that Paulenty, Palin or even Romney are probably going to be on McCains short list - There aren't a lot of dynamic Republicans that stand out, but none of them have come out and flatly denied the thought of being VP like the Dems have. Obama has a problem of a different nature - his VP choices should be more clear (or at least more transparent) to the minions - but as of yet, the only people getting mentioned are the people telling him (in the most PC way they can) "No way in Hell!!" I just find that kinda odd... Thanks for your response! :)

Pawlenty would be one of the worst choices for McCain.  He's just as dull as McCain is.  And his popularity in Minnesota is dwindling.

isn't he?

"Pawlenty" sounds like an Indian dish, you know, a fragrant rice or something...

As for the Dems "flatly denied the thought of being VP", I say, yeah, so what?  The minute McCain & Obama appear on the same stage, I say Game Over, no matter who their Veep pix are.

And minions, what's up with that?  Is that a side dish?  Waiter, I'll have pawlenty with minions, please.

None of this matters right now.  Ain't nothing going on but the rent...high gas prices...high fuel prices...stagnant wages...yeah, gimme more of that, yum!

your liquor cabinet will dry up first.

And to answer your question, every election cycle I can remember,  for both parties. So, nice try, thanks for playing!

Come again when you've got something (other than a hangover).

Evidence, please! You simply cannot say it without backing it up with proof! (Isn't that what you guys scream at me all the time?) Thanks! :)

You simply cannot say it without backing it up with proof!

Sure I can, you do it all the time. No matter, you claim to be a teacher?Social Studies I think.

Come on bobo, the number of politicians, Republican and Democrat who have turned down a VP nod early, late and in between  are legion,

Please. Come back when you've got something other than your "Obama...Bad" caveman rant

Politically, Kerry brings Obama nothing.  The Dems are going to win MA regardless.  And most of the country had enough of Kerry after 2004.

Politically, the best choice is Wesley Clark - although it now appears Obama doesn't have the balls to back up Wes' statements on McCain.  So he's probably out.  I always liked Feingold, but that would be too leftist for Obama.  So if I had to predict, I say he take the woman from Kansas.

by dad on 07/08/2008 12:41:06 PM EST

For a unique and surprising bi-partisan VP pick, Obama could place the call to the (in many ways) former Senator Jesse Helms, not only for contrast but because he would be a good silent partner and, despite his deficiencies, would still be a better VP than Cheney. If Jesse the Body doesn't answer, Obama should shock the McCain Media nannies and ninnies and choose straight-talking General Wes Clark, who is a hero in real life as well as is a real war hero, for his wartime military command experience and for having the guts to say that the imp-hero mccain has no clothes.

Of course, McCain might then counter bi-partisanwise by picking beloved, former Senator Paul Wellstone, who despite his long absence, would still have a far more exciting presence and warmer personality than either McCain, Pawlenty, Romney, or most of the other Pubelickin possibilities.

by honest abe on 07/08/2008 01:15:19 PM EST

It should still be Wes Clark.

Failing him, Joe Biden or Bill Richardson.

But it aint gonna happen - and if it does, then all we'll hear about is about how he bashed McCains record and how he has no respect for those who serve blah blah blah... Again, thanks for your thoughts Jarrett. :)
