CNN Ran My McCain/Edwards Story!...Maybe

Google Technorati del.icio.us digg reddit
Earlier this week I posed the question "What Do John McCain and John Edwards Have In Common?"

'Remember how Republicans across America (come to think of it, it wasn't only Republicans) brought up the Edwards $400 haircut day after day after day?

Well guess what? John McCain has been wearing a $520 pair of Italian loafers. I guess this means all of those people who just couldn't stop talking about 'pretty boy' Edwards being "out of touch" because he had and spent money are going to be consistent and bash McCain, right?'

And I love it. I mean, how could you not?

The point was never that I wanted to see more irrelevant MSM stories on fluffy, non-substantive issues. Believe me, I know there are already far too many of those.  The point is that the mainstream media always goes along with the Republican framing and spin regarding how elitist, weak and out of touch Democrats are because of how they dress, what they drive and drink and how much they spend on their hair-cuts, etc.

So in that context and in that context only, I think we should appreciate that CNN
(a station that strongly mocked the Democrats just the other day) covered this story. Look, fair is fair, and if Edwards lost votes over his hair why not let McCain lose some votes over his shoes?

PS---I credit HuffPo for breaking the shoe story but I credit months of having to put up with non-substantive smears on Edwards for the rest. Finally, I should add that there is one thing that was on CNN that we can be proud of.

Cenk, have you seen these photos of the bear that ran across the golf course?  It proves your point: white people stick around for anything.

Personally, Will Ferrell's quotation from "Semi-Pro" when the bear escaped sprang to mind: "THERE WILL BE NO REFUND. THE ONLY REFUND WILL BE ESCAPING THIS DEATH TRAP WITH YOUR LIFE."

I know that you're not Cenk. I didn't see any "create a new topic" button on the main page, so I posted the comment here.

at the upper right side of the homepage when you're logged in. Look for the "Write New Blog Post":

I read (and even occasionally post) some things on here that doesn't appear to be anywhere else (according to the Google) and then see it pop up in other places, some small but some high profile.

For those of you who have a broader view of this "liberal blogosphere", where would you rank the TYT message boards?

I know we are well behind DailyKos and HuffPo although we often spin up to those.  Who else is bigger/ more influential?

And, as always, awesome work Tom. Whether they got it from you or not, you definitely beat them to it.

and Democratic Underground, not just TYT.

I think we're lacking here, although I'm encouraged that more posters are starting to participate.  Still, we should be better.

Aw, and we knew you when. Well, if your shoe story turns the election, I think it should, at a minimum, earn you a four year appointment in the Obama administration. Perhaps as Barack's resident fashionista to keep him up to date on Italian style, presidential basketball shorts, etc. And God knows, someone needs to advise him on new suits. :-).

I can always look to you for a logical, well thought out response.
