US to give missle defense system to Poland, Russian threatens to attack

Google Technorati del.icio.us digg reddit
Poland is now a NATO country, but STILL.  The Polish are shaken by the threats.

What kind of insanity is this?  THIS is the payback for Russia invading Georgia?  I'm guessing that Russia will not be as eager to invade Poland as they were a non-Nato country like Poland - BUT WAY TO DESTABILIZE AND ALREADY DESTABILIZED SITUATION IN EASTERN EUROPE!

Christ on a BIKE.  Is there any bone-head ploy the Bushies won't try?  And just how will the missle defense system defend Poland from airstrikes or a ground invasion?  Is NATO REEEAAALLLY ready to take on Russia while the US is all tied up in the middle east?  Will they threaten a nuclear attack on Russia?

Yep Yep!  Bush will start the cold war again before he leaves.  It's a guaranteed way to make sure that those defence contracts keep rolling out even AFTER he's gone.

When I read about this earlier today I nearly shat myself. I just thank God for two things:

#1 - That Robert Gates is the Sec of Defense right now, and not RUmmy

#2 Putin is the cold calculater that he is. He seems like the type who will use force when he is sure that he will gain, but is definitely smart and won't do anthing suicidal or rahs. He is cold and calculating, but not demented.

I can't think of any good reason to do this.  This horseshit about rogue missiles is just that.  No one who enjoys breathing is going to fire a missile at Western Europe.  The situation there has been stable for two decades until our idiot-in-chief started talking about missile defense.

That cocksucker is doing this to make money.  He and his daddy and probably Cheney too are somehow going to benefit from this, I'd bet every thing I own on it.

...and got a sense of his soul.  I'm surprised Bush saw one, to be honest.  But maybe they have the same war-mongering soul.

I'm trying to understand the problem associated with implementation of a purely defensive missile shield system that involves no nuclear warheads. For 20 years, you commies assured us that SDI would never work. Now that it works, and it brought down the USSR, your argument is that it is globally destabilizing. I'm looking forward to a mass exodous of American liberals, or a decisive struggle, whichever comes first.

Kenny boy don't know if you are too thick or just too much of a intellectual low life

we've gone over the reason why in 4 or 5 threads already, I'm not going to keep stating those reasons again and again

to what end, that everyone starts beating you up over the same comments you make over and over again

or maybe you've got a cheese brain like McCain, knowledge just seeps right out of it

I've you would support Russia putting some missiles in Texas, then I'll believe you have some honorable reasons, if not: you're just one more war mongering p(r)ick with illusions of empire

This is just a sure fire way to start a cold war!

The congress should wake up and let the world know that they will not fund this. That will stop all of this. The leaders of the world will know that Bush is a lame duck. He can jack his jaw until he is out of office and no one will pay any attention.

1. the missile shield is NOT under NATO control, many European NATO members are against it, this is purely US military

2. 70% of Polish and Czech citizens are against the shield

3. Russia isn't going to invade Poland, but they have announced today that they are going to aim their missiles at Poland

4. and you wonder why Europeans in general hate the living guts out of Bush, why he is way more hated than let's say Osama around the world.
This incompetent war criminal has achieved that nuclear missiles will once more be pointed at Europe.

why are other people always paying for America's mess???????????

grow the fuck up and start electing leaders on the basis of policy, instead of this dog and pony show we see once more happening

fucking retards! (meaning all the idiots who keep supporting Rethuglican policies and everyone who votes based on image)

Please guys. Why this shouting match and name-calling?

> For 20 years, you commies assured us that SDI would never work.

Well, it might work against a handful of nukes - say of Iran, but it's nowhere near able to deal with as large a nuclear arsenal as that of Russia. So the answer here is: Yes and No.

As far as I am concerned, the programme is pretty wasteful and has been politically a liabilty. That money could have brought greater security gains if invested in other ways.

As last that I heard, it can only hit targets whose trajectories have been programed into the system.  And even then it only hits 1 out of 3.

A boondoggle that only ensures an arms race.  We can't afford it, but I know that defense contractors are salivating at the thought of it.
