Was John McCain raped as a POW?

John McCain gave a first hand account of his experience as a POW for US News & Report in May of 1973 in which he said all his captors were homosexuals who got off on whipping him.

“Now I don't hate them any more—not these particular guys. I hate and detest the leaders. Some guards would just come in and do their job. When they were told to beat you they would come in and do it. Some seemed to get a big bang out of it. A lot of them were homosexual, although never toward us. Some, who were pretty damned sadistic, seemed to get a big thrill out of the beatings.”

How did POW McCain know they were gay if they weren't gay "toward him"? Were the homosexuals the ones who enjoyed the beatings or were the sadists a separate category? Could it be that McCain was among the POWs that were raped or sexually assaulted during their captivity to break their spirit or to ‘rob’ them of their manhood or honor? Is this what led him to make those statements? Yes, he said ‘never towards us’ but that was in 1973 and to tell the world that he was raped would be too much for anyone to admit then or now.

If John McCain was sexual assaulted or raped during those 5 years, how could he or anyone come out of that normal, let alone be President of the United States?

Ted Sampley was the Green Beret who went after McCain in 2000 and John Kerry in 2004.
