Americans think Obama will be better on taxes than McCain.  I have a classmate who is a wealthy Intel employee.  Last night he said that, although he knew his taxes would be higher under Obama's plan, he was fine with that.  Reason?  He believes rich Americans should share the wealth with those less fortunate.

GOP = Greedy OLD Pricks

But those numbers show that my work is far from done.

Expect another viral email/blog from me within the next 24 hours that's even more damaging.

New study proves it that greedy Republicans are genetic mutants that never develop the sharing instinct that kicks in at age 7-8 in healthy human children.

Americans think Obama will be better on taxes than McCain.

The AARP Bulletin recently commissioned a nationwide poll to explore financial literacy on important consumer subjects among people ages 40 and older. Fifty percent of the poll respondents "failed" the financial literacy quiz, correctly answering fewer than 50% of the items.

for Michelle or Cindy on this poll should be forever disqualified from future serious discussion. Really...

Kucinichs wife ROCKS!!!

Its the red hair for me!

:)

Like you wouldn't want to see her when she isn't smiling.  But I like Michele.  There were some shots of her in the audience last night where she was adorable.  Just my opinion though, and it's a pretty subjective topic ;)

but uh, red hair is the least attractive hair color to me. It's generally accompanied by pastiness and freckles of which I'm no fan.

But I'll make an exception for Nikki Cox, Nicole Kidman and that atheist that debated Kirk Cameron on ABC with Martin Bashir (s) or whatever.

is jet black followed by that terrible light, light, light bleached blond (usually coupled with excessive tan).

I like Brown and (reasonable) blond. In fact, my favorite is brown with natural looking highlights (not those fake skunk streaks). Or blonde with natural looking low-lights.

but I don't really have a hair preference.  My girlfriend right now has dark brown hair with some deep maroon highlights that are barely visible under most lights.  It's very nice.

;)

PS---I don't understand what "no hair preference" means. Are you speaking English? For the record, hair style and color (especially style) makes a HUGE difference in physical appearance. It's astounding how far a good (or bad) haircut will go.

by ihavenobias on 08/27/2008 05:05:35 PM EST

A bad haircut is just that, bad.  But I meant I have no preference when it comes to color or long vs. short and that kind of thing.

by Spencer on 08/27/2008 05:52:18 PM EST

[ Parent ]
There are good shorter haircuts and good longer haircuts. Generally speaking, the shorter the hair the prettier the face needs to be.

And I'll say it again: Halle Berry (for example) looks much, much better with longer hair. Is she pretty either way? Yes. Does she look better with longer (not saying LONG, just not 10 year old boy short)? Yes.

but you are right, the pasty, translucent skin that accompanies natural redheads does nothing for me.

there are, however, plenty of auburn haired and non-natural reds I am totally into, like my auburn haired wife.

I've found that most often red hair is accompanied by just plain fugliness.  Elizabeth Kucinich is a rare exception.

I don't mind pale skin and I love freckles.  It's just that red hair usually goes along with plainly unattractive facial features.

1)-Ouch. As we write these things I really do feel bad for any red-heads reading them. They should understand that it applies to most red-heads OTHER than them. ;)

2)-I'm shocked that no one questioned my reference to the hot red-headed atheist that debated Kirk Cameron over God on ABC. No curiosity there?

Seriously, how could you (general you) not be intrigued by a hot red-head atheist debating Kirk Cameron (about God) on ABC?

Either you've seen it or you've never heard of it and you think "whoah, I gotta check this out".

PS----I'm not crazy about her voice or cheesy tattoo. And while she makes a few good points in the debate, overall they could've chosen someone much better. Finally, you'll notice that the moderator was TERRIBLE. He was completely and blatantly biased in favor of the religious zealots.

She's very cute and quite stacked up top (at least it appeared that way).  She can lure me into Hell any time.

Obviously I didn't watch the whole debate yet, but I'll get to it eventually.  Then, after the rage subsides, I'll go back to my usual complacence/apathy about all things spiritual.

Julianne Moore is an extremely impressive exception.  So is Laura Prepon  But they're the exceptions that prove the rule.

by jarett on 08/28/2008 12:51:44 PM EST

I can dig those two.  Prepon especially.  But are they natural redheads?  Prepon does not strike me as one.  Moore does.

I get where Jarett is coming from.  It takes one hell of a hot redhead to catch my eye...in most cases, the pigmentation issue registers with me as a hallmark of frailty.

That girl is beautiful.

On a related note, I don't know if her hair color is naturally red, but Rose McGowan has been a hot pale redhead before.  I'm usually alone on this (just like my Christina Ricci/Rosario Dawson love), but that's okay.  I'm prepared for the hate.

by Spencer on 08/27/2008 10:26:48 PM EST

[ Parent ]

I didn't know who she was then, but yes, that was very nice.

No thoughts on Rose McGowan though?

(PS: Am I alone in thinking that The Sopranos was crazy overrated?  I mean, I liked it and all, but much like Rich's thoughts on Michael Jordan, some of the praise is way over the top, especially when a show like The Wire gets damn near ignored.)

I would not say the Sopranos was overrated but then you threw out its praise relative to the Wire's lack thereof and you had me.

The Wire might possibly be the best TV show ever.

If you have not see it, stop everything and watch it immediately.

But still, the Sopranos was brilliantly written unbelievably well acted and never boring.  It was great.  The Wire was all those things while being brutally realistic and being a sort of Ulysses for the modern American urban life, it covered pretty much everything and did it all with subtlety and insight.

Plus Omar is the baddest dude ever on TV regardless of his being gay.

by ProfRich on 08/28/2008 12:26:22 AM EST

[ Parent ]
Anyone who likes The Wire should also seek out David Simon's books "Homicide" (which was also a great TV show) and "The Corner" (which was another great HBO mini-series).  They're both amazing, and have the added drama of being non-fiction.  I also hear Generation Kill is quite good, though I haven't seen it yet.

I went out of town this weekend.  Left Friday afternoon and came back Sunday.

Didn't read the TYT boards at all.

When I got home and looked at them I was almost 400 posts behind.  I started reading my way through them but it got worse.

I just caught up.  It took me three days!

I think I read about a thousand posts.

I can't maintain this pace.  you guys are killing me.

I noticed on Monday y'all averaged a post every six minutes over the 24 hour period.

Damn!

by ProfRich on 08/27/2008 04:55:55 PM EST

You're a good man ProfRich.  The weekend build-up to the DNC convention was anti-climactic in many ways -- much bickering on the blogs over Hilliary and her fourth-coming speech.  But, I believe the MSM made it the worst convention to anticipate simply because they can't do their job.

I am a journalist by trade, but I see so very little journalism at work from any of the MSM, either electronic or print, including the periodicals.

I believe their hands are tied.  If they put up a piece that is relevant, I believe the editors throw it out and give them 12 hours to come up with something anti-left or all out republican.  Fox and the ditto heads are having a field day without a fairness policy -- that is legislation; since they probably do have an internal "fairness policy" for visitors to read.

I wonder if, when we win the election we too can tear up other legislation made to hurt the public; not only fairness in and among the MSM, but other stuff like locking anybody up they feel like.  This past adminisrtation had such a good time they went so far as to say the Constitution was old and outdated as to be in the way of republicans -- at least no republican representative said a thing in attempts to reverse that thinking, or to curtail it, when the idea was out there purporting to do away with the Constitution.

I think I’ve asked you the question before, but I don’t remember a response. Your trouble understanding the Constitution, and your trouble with the English language have me convinced that you recently immigrated to our shores. I can’t help you with English, because I’m as challenged as you, but I can try to give you a primer on the Constitution.

We have this thing called the Bill of Rights, which protects the individual from domination by the government.  The First Amendment in the Bill of Rights gives organizations the right to broadcast any kind of information they choose. America is nothing like the Soviet Union, where the government controls information.

As a result of the First Amendment, FoxNews is allowed to broadcast information that you disagree with, and you can’t do a goddam thing about it. If they wanted to, they could even broadcast blatant falsehoods, like CBS News and CNN News.

I realize that freedom of speech probably makes you unhappy, because some people disagree with you. But that's just one of the things you'll just have to learn to deal with.

But when I click "upload yours now" or whatever that link is called it brings me to a blank page (TYT info at the top but not my C drive with the photos, etc.).

I turned the pop-up blocker off for TYT.com and I'm using Firefox (pretty much the same thing happens with Explorer).

I have to come out and fess up that I voted Cindy as the hottest wife.  Let me be clear, Michele and Elizabeth are obviously more beautiful, however, there is something about Cindy that stirs in me that I just can’t shake.  Before you get all over me, hear me out as I try to explain the psychology behind this "stirring."  First, let me be clear about the Cindy I’m talking about.  I’m not referring to the Cindy with short-hair back in 2000, nor the Cindy close-up shots that reveal the brutal nature of aging.  I’m talking about occasional pictures/videos of Cindy that at first sight make you think ‘ole Johnny Boy has hired an escort for the night.

There’s also something deeper going on here beyond this GILF phenomenon which I will call the Paris/Britney effect.  No, not that horrible McCain ad; I’m talking about why such otherwise plain-looking people are idolized in the mainstream.  Personally I think Paris is an exception with her unique beauty though I know others feel otherwise.  I remember TiggerPorn once referenced that the media is somehow trying to create this image of John McCain as the good 'ole coach with the hot wife.  Obviously TiggerPorn wasn’t buying it though this is where things get confusing for me.  Am I really that attracted to Britney Spears and Cindy McCain or am I being hoodwinked?

Let me take this in another direction since you guys are probably thinking isn’t Britney so pre-9/11 and Cindy such a wretched republican.  I don’t know what Freud would make of this, but I seem to have a lot of empathy for people who I perceive to be victims even if it’s partly due to their own devices.  I think Britney is a perfect example of how pop culture/the mainstream can champion a star on their shoulders and then suddenly toss them on the ground to eat dirt.  With Cindy, as with Laura B. I feel for these women who are with such men who have a warped perspective of the world.  It gets a little confusing with Laura since she has that motherly charm as well as that librarian thing going for her so I’ll leave her out of this for now.  Ok I’ve taken this way too far for a comment and no I don’t won’t go changing republican men’s wives with some eye-awakening, "soul-gasmic" experience..........or do I?
