This is the sort of thing that makes my stomach turn. I've been fighting for the freedom of the people in Burma, but our government/police force looks increasingly like the military dictatorship there. Yes I'm exaggerating, but....

We had a similar incident here in LA last year during an immigrant rally. Cops beat and maced civilians and reporters. 

 Every year the LAPD chief asks for more cops, but it keeps getting voted down. I think the authoritarian police culture needs to change before people will allow more hires.

LAPD has an awful reputation for brutality and corruption. It starts at the top, as does political corruption everywhere.

Main problem for reporters is the consolidation of media. Break up the media conglomos and they'll bring more light to police excesses.
