McCain namng his VP within 24 hours could be a mistake

If McCain decides to release the name of his VP before Saturday I think it could be a huge mistake for him

The thinking behind McCain naming his VP so soon after the convention and Barack accepting the nomination is that, in theory, it would divert attention from Obama and onto McCain. In the McCain camp's mind, this would be an ass kickin' media coup.

However, I think they are taking a gamble here. Naming the VP on Friday, or even late Thursday night (as I've heard may happen), could actually ruin a built in media frenzy that is a VP selection. Selecting your VP means a guaranteed day of good coverage on a slow news day. Barack did his last Saturday and got all of that day plus Sunday free to him and Biden.

If McCain names his VP on Friday, the day that most media will be wanting to both speak about what happened Thursday, but also a retrospective recap of the whole convention, he could dilute his own coverage. Instead of getting 100% of the coverage if he released the name on Saturday, he may get partially buried, at under 50% of the coverage. Then, going into the weekend the coverage may still be split because the VP pick will be seen as part of the week's news, and not THE NEWS of the weekend.

Add that with the prospect of Hurricane Gustav doing some serious damage, McCain could be looking at split coverage for both his VP choice and his convention, while Barack got 100% rabid coverage for both.

So while the gamble could pay off, I'm not so sure it will. Its a roll of the dice, and if McCain's not careful, his could come up snake eyes

he he picks either of these jerk-offs and dies in office, America is fucked.
Lieberman will blow up every spot in the middle east without oil.
Romney might be the one who kill McCain in the first place...

is to do it when the media is too busy to notice that the McCain - Pawlenty ticket is weak sauce.  Too much attention will only bring out the flaws.

By McCain - they have completely stolen the thunder of Obamas speech by speculating on McCains VP. Now they are pissing me off because they keep saying Joe Lieberman - Mark me here, people - If McCain picks "Independent" Joe, I will vote for Obama!!! :)

I've got a great campaign slogan they can use for her:

Sarah Palin - A sweet piece of ass for oil and gas.

Yeah!

It was a joke bobo.  Now I realize that a person as sensitive to the concerns of others of different sex and ethnicity as yourself (cough, hack, cough) is deeply and truly offended by this kind of crass and crude humor and for that I offer my sincerest apologies.

It wasnt that I personally was deeply offended, bfaul, but I just wanted to point out what hypocracy looked like...

If we would have said something about Obama in that context, we would have been slammed as being a racists - but it seems as if its OK for you to be a sexist, because you were "just joking"

Gee, maybe I should have detected this sexism before - look how you guys treated Hillary...

Ok, all snarkiness aside, I'm being mean to her.  I admit it.  That's unfair, considering I know very little about her.  But whether she knows it or not, or whether she acknowledges it or not, she is being used as a tool.

I can easily imagine the meeting of the minds on this one:

"We need a woman.  That way we collect all those women that wanted Hillary instead of Obama that are pissed because they believe it was a sexist choice.  But we need a woman who has her mind right.  She's got to be acceptable to the base (white male christian red-meat types), and it wouldn't hurt if she were young and kind of pretty to offset the "grandpa death" thing. (So much for "experience counts" I guess).  This Palin lady would be perfect because she's gung-ho for drilling in ANWR,  she's a life-long NRA member and likes to fish.  She's pro-life and anti gay marriage, and demonstrates admirably how a woman should feel.  I heard she may have fired someone who refused to fire her brother-in-law because of a legal battle over child-support he was having with her sister, so she may be a little vindictive, but probably nothing we can't manage."

Admit it, she's been chosen not because of her credentials but because she's a woman with the "correct" characteristics.  They did this with Colin Powell as well.  He was their token negro whose views and power were marginalized when he diverged from the neocon agenda and who was cynically used to promote the war before being cast aside.  Rice was/is their token negress.  Notice how she is carefully sequestered behind closed curtains the moment her views deviate from the party line.

My comment was ugly and sexist nonetheless.  I concede it.

...and Hillary was never anyone's tool.

The time to fight is NOW.  You are totally right on all points.  Bobo's crocodile tears for Hillary could fill a swimming pool.
