The kiss-ass McCain base (the press) has left the building

Here is an aricle in Newsweek by Jon Alter, who is one of the guys who actually sat in the back of the so-called "Straight Talk Express" eating donuts and lapping up every word uttered by McCain for years, while heaping praise upon his maverick hero. Well, those days are over. Read this article and you'll see that Cenk is correct in his assertion that the press is starting to bail on McCain.

Unfortunately, this will probably run McCain comple tely into the arms of Faux News who will promptly label any of the McCain deserters part of the "liberal media".

The Press, MSM, whatever you want to call it has been in OBAMA's pocket from Day 1!!!

What other politician in recent history can cause Chris Matthews to have orgasms on camera? What other politician could survive a presidential run being associated with people like Ayers and Wright? Who else could have carried as much water for Obama in his victory over the Clintons?? Even ihavenobias (Tom) here on this blog couldnt dream of carrying the amount of water that the MSM has for Obama.

Its like that line that Senator Alan Simpson reads in that movie "Dave" -

"I've carried more water for him than Gunga Din for crying out loud!!!"

My God Man, There is a fucking cable channel DEVOTED to Obama exclusively!!! Oprah has devoted the last 2 years into getting this man elected. How much more in his pocket can the media be???

McCain might get away with saying that Czechoslovakia is till one country, but Obama is pulling the biggest electoral sham since John Quincy Adams in 1832 - and the media is the wave on which he is riding all the way to the White House!!!

It is Abso-Fucking-Lutly Astounding to think that McCain is benefiting from the "Media Bias"!!!

What a joke!!!

You seem to be confusing media coverage (e.g., Obama's recent trip) with media bias (how events are "spun" by the media).  A recent study shows you are simply wrong.

"The Center for Media and Public Affairs at George Mason University, where researchers have tracked network news content for two decades, found that ABC, NBC and CBS were tougher on Obama than on Republican John McCain during the first six weeks of the general-election campaign.

During the evening news, the majority of statements from reporters and anchors on all three networks are neutral, the center found. And when network news people ventured opinions in recent weeks, 28% of the statements were positive for Obama and 72% negative.

Network reporting also tilted against McCain, but far less dramatically, with 43% of the statements positive and 57% negative, according to the Washington-based media center."

But as I teach my students, dates and even names aren't the important parts of History - its the ideas and the driving force behind human behavior that needs to be reckoned with... And unlike you, Professor, I don't feel the need to be right all the time and to tell others that they are wrong. That's why Liberals like you aren't successful in maintaining power in this country - nobody likes a smart ass know it all! That's another thing I like to impart to my students! Thanks again for your continued display of arrogance and self righteousness!

Then you would understand why everybody laughs at you when you post shit like this.

McCain has been acting like an incompetent fool and you get pissed when his boy Jon Alter calls him on it?? If Obama had made EVEN ONE of the MANY mistakes and misstatements that McCain has made, he'd be roasted alive. Let's not forget the ass reaming that Obama took during the Rev. Wright episode, or the "bitter" comments. NOTHING like that has happened to McCain. Imagine what would happen if one of Obama's aides said that we were all a nation of "whiners". The race would be over and you know it. Obama has no base of press like McCain has/had. Not to worry though, the Karl Rove acolytes McCain has hired will soon put a stop to all of that.

If by his own network you mean Obama has MSNBC, outside of Oberman and that guy who comes on after him, nothing could be further from the truth. Just take a look at Morning Joe. Enough said there. Besides, the rightwing has had THEIR own network for years. What is wrong with the left getting some love? You reichies act like you own TV. Errr actually, you do. My bad.  Anyway, I only wish that MSNBC does fully come over to our side, starting with the firing of Joe Scarbourough. Oh happy day that would be. Dude gets ratings though, so we won't see that.

I don't care about Alter's article - I know McCain is a worthless buffoon... I don't know why a lot of you think I'd ever vote for him... What I am saying is that there has been no one who has gotten more breaks from the media than Senator Obama! I mean really - The whole Reverend Wright thing would have killed any other candidate - but not Obama! The Clinton attack machine SHOULD have demolished his run, but who was there to save him? You got it... Anyone with Obama's documented lack of experience would never had NORMALLY passed muster in this type of election, but with the medias push, he has risen to national prominance! Anyone with any degree of sense can plainly see who the media is rooting for here Mijoh - don't be dishonest by saying its McCain... The public aint buyin it!!!

His examples to prove the media is so nice to Obama are Reverend Wright, Lew Ayres and the Clinton attacks?

Is he suggesting the media did not cover these stories?  Is he suggesting they portrayed them in a pro-Obama light?

See, Bobo can't separate the media trying to help a candidate and the American public not giving a shit about a story.  Its not the media that is pro-Obama (as bobo has proved quite effectively) its the American people.

On election night 2000, I was furiously flipping channels around 3:00 AM, trying to get an objective opinion on the outcome, because nobody knew who won the election.

Jonathan Alter came on NBC and started wailing on Jeb Bush and the Florida GOP. At this point, he figured out that the Florida legislature was GOP controlled, the Florida Governor was Jeb Bush, the U.S. House was GOP controlled, the U.S. Senate was GOP controlled, and his team (The Democrats) were holding an empty hand.

Alter had an emotional meltdown on the set, screaming about lawsuits that would last until the middle of 2001, and a Civil War that would make the streets run red with blood. I wish there was a youtube clip of the scene, because it was priceless.

Jonathan Alter once liked John McCain in the same manner that I like Joe Lieberman. McCain was fucking with the party that Alter considered the enemy.

are probably exaggerating but I agree with the substance of this post (see below). Remember the Linda Ronstadt themesong?

Johnny Alter did a regular segment on Al Franken's show. He may have been a reporter on the straight talk express, but remember Cenk used to be a supporter of McCain too. Until pretty recently (fall 2006) in fact. Even I used to like the guy and half toyed with the idea of voting for him. Joe Klein's remarks this week are a bigger deal. But I'm not buying it yet. The cable networks are so biased for the republicans it makes me sick to watch tv. Its a miracle that mine hasn't become one with the dining room chair.

by hazmat on 08/04/2008 12:24:46 AM EST

How is the cable news in any way shape or form "Republican"? We must have different cable TV here in Arizona, because the channels I see here reek of Liberalism and Obamamaniacs! What a strange country this must be to have different coverage in different states!!! :)

You're so far right wing that fox news seems left of center. Other than that I'm sure our idjit-boxes transmit the same signal. Glad to help...

I wasn't even thinking about Fox since I really don't watch it...If that's what your basing your "Republican" view of the cable networks on, I suggest you go over to the Communist News Network (CNN) or the Neverending Barack Coverage (NBC) to see wgat I'm talking about. Some other monikers - Cover Baracks' Shit (CBS) network and the All Barack Channel (ABC). Either way you slice it, hazmat, your assertion that the TV/Cable news is Republican is absloute nonsense - Even Fox is "Fair and Balanced", you know! :)

assertion was that the networks are biased "for" the republicans, not, that they are republican. Only fox news is directly controlled by the GOP. p.s., I'm not being snippy, sorry if I hurt your feelings.

I still dont see how the networks are even biased for Republians - seriously, its like watching Democrat talking points all day on the major cable channels except Fox...

In what do you see this Republican bend? I would really like to know so I can watch for it!

repeats republican talking points all the time. Its sick.

Seriously, spend some time at this informative little corner of the web and educate yourself. Scroll down and check out the "latest" tab. Virtually none of it is about Fox.

This is the hardest core leftist site on the web! They don't bother with Fox because they deem Fox unworthy of the oxygen it takes to talk about them! I have a better understanding now why you think the major networks are Right-wing!!! And Olbermann uses right wing framing only to attepmt to smash it into bits. And BTW, "Right Wing Framing" isn't always wrong, you know. Some might just call it "correct" framing! :)

which statement do people on this forum endorse:

1) Media matters is a "hard core" left wing site with no sense of perspective.

2) Bobo is a "hard core" right winger with a tenuous grasp on reality.

When you are "talking" to bobo here you really aren't having anything resembling a conversation.

You are just providing brief pauses during a unfocused, deranged, reality detached rant about whatever floats into bobo's head that particular second.

I think asking him to get our jokes is unrealistic and, considering how open he is with his inability to understand reality on anything but an "I know what I know!" basis, unfair.
