Sorry for being a Spanish Ignoramus but there is one thing of the election process I'm not sure of and would be grateful if someone can answer.

Strictly speaking in political fiction (because it will not happen), if McCain is elected Nov 4th and his old and cancer ridden body dies before being sworn in Jan 20th 2009, does that mean that Barracuda Palin would be sworn in as POTUS..........Please tell me it aint so!! Please!! Please tell me there would be another election!!

Here's my understanding of it -

if the President Elect dies before the electoral college offically meets and certifies the election, then they get to choose wh becomes president or at least make a recommendation as to how to proceed...

If the president Elect dies after the Electoral college meets, then the VP on that ticket becomes the President and things go along as scheduled...
