Notice how the House Republicans are having a Whine Tasting session this week? Why hasn't there been a call to write letters to the editors in contested areas complaining about their actions?

Think about it - while they are there playing games, the home area is open to the Democratic opposition to BLAST the bastards. Is YOUR local Dem candidate taking advantage of this opening? If not, CALL THEM and ask them why not?

Just do it. It will take 15 minutes.

I really like that you're doing a call to action!  My only concern is, I'm not sure all readers will be 100% clear on what the "Whine Tasting" is and how that relates to what we should call our reps about (can you clarify and or include a link?).

PS---15 minutes if you're on hold for a long time, but probably more like 5 which is even better.

Okay, so I'm too cute by half sematically. I make up for it in the looks dept, so it all balances out.

I am, of course, referring to the debate in the darkened chambers. The Republican House crybabies are holding a vigil in D.C. trying to get the Democrats to come back and play things the way Republicans WANT them to play it. The Dems wisely said, "Screw 'em" and went home to campaign.

Even Dubya realized the inanity by refusing to recall the Democrats and headed off to Beijing, causing The Boehner to snivel and accuse the Prez of throwing the House Republicans under the bus. Well, Johnny Boy. welcome to America! He threw the rest of us under there 7 years ago.

There ya go. Background.

Most of the Republicans who are staying are in totally red districts with little or no opposition... That might be a reason why they feel safe staying in Washington this month...

On the other hand, why doesnt Pelosi just let them vote on it? Because she knows she'll lose, and God forbid the country wants something and she loses political ground for it!!!

Bastard Dems...

by bobo1 on 08/07/2008 02:00:34 PM EST

Much as I don't like Pelosi, she did the right thing here. The Republicans are pulling a stunt and she is under no obligation to facillitate their madness. It's a stupid bill, brought forward with the sole intent of causing disturbance, not oil independence.

Is McCain tanking in AZ yet? I counted them as one of the 48 states Obama will take in November. Don't disappoint me, grab a stack of registration cards and go sign up some Dem voters. Don't bother with the illegals - they're already registered Republicans.

Arizona aint goin blue - bank on it -

All the Damn Illegals out here are all democrats - but dont worry - Sheriff Joe has posses guarding the polling areas, rounding them up as we see em! Im volunteering in my area to do my part for Liberty!!!

As far as the oil thing goes, Pelosi is just showing herself to be the joke that she is - How many books of hers did she sell? 2100? For being someone of special historic value, thats fucking pathetic.

But then again, so are the Dems who allow Bush to remain as president after documenting all the crimes hes committed...

48 states my ass...

The irony is...  well, it's something.

And I love how you threw in Pelosi's book number, showing that you get all of your info from right wing sources.  Odd I didn't hear anybody mentioning that whole scandal from a couple of years ago when conservative book clubs would buy up a ton of right wing books to inflate the numbers (Notice the name Jerome Corsi in there?  He's the guy who's current book "The Obama Nation" is being touted as such a big seller by Limbaugh and Hannity as they shit on Pelosi in the next breath).

I know that's not what this thread is about, and I don't want to continue to hijack Tim's post, but I've been hearing that bullshit on the radio all day and I had to say something about it.  Good thing bobo is always there to bring up the latest Republican talking point.

and I have Mexican ancestry.

This country is being over-run with illegal aliens. While there is little evidence that John McCain has ever shown any interest in stopping the flow of illegal aliens, there is no doubt that Barack Obama will tear down the Great Wall of Arizona, and allow unchecked, unrestricted immigration from Mexico.

Do you two ever stop to think what drove these poor people to such extremes that they would risk their lives to get into our country?  For example, their loved ones perhaps in desperate straits from illness or poverty?  A child in dire need of medicine that only money can buy?  It is one thing to have a political view about immigration and how to control it; it is quite another to celebrate the deaths of individuals that you do not know.

You two seem to have no ability to put yourselves in others' shoes.  That is called empathy.  I realize it is lacking in some people, but it is nothing to be proud of unless your goal is to lose those characteristics that distinguish you from lower forms of life.  Lower than rats even.

It was terrible that nine souls lost their lives. It was terrible in the fact that it could have been avoided...

But I must ask you - Where's the empathy for me, the taxpayer?

Isnt it cruel to make the taxpayer to pick up the tab for scraping these 9 idiots off the road, paying the overtime and filing the paperwork for taking care of another country's dead?

Isnt it cruel that the other 10 morons stuffed into that SUV were medivac here to Phoenix Hospital Trauma centers, where I the taxpayer will bear the burden of the cost of such transport and care for PEOPLE WHO DONT BELONG HERE!!!

Isnt it cruel that our healthcare system is being squeezed and clogged by these fucking parasites who suck and leech off of OUR TAX MONEY that could be better spent in taking care of people who, well I dont know, FUCKING BELONG HERE IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!

Isnt it cruel that my 3 children, WHO ARE ALL LEGAL CITIZENS OF THIS NATION, cant get decent healthcare or schooling benefits because the FUCKING ILLITERATE TRASH keeps flowing over our border and we keep nursing them with the sweet supple milk of Freedom from obeying our laws???

I am so sick and fucking tired of Liberals and Republicans who allow these people to continue their free ride at my expense. I honestly cannot understand why we havent started shooting these tax sapping Sons a Bitches Berlin style a long time ago.

So where's my empathy? How about some understanding for me, the guy and his family who pays their way and doesnt get anything but grief in return...

Deport them all NOW!!!

There, happy?  There is a difference between discussing a problem and potential solutions and celebrating the deaths of real flesh and blood human beings that you do not know.  Perhaps you haven't experienced a death in your immediate family lately and forget how painful it is, no matter what color you are.

Please tell me how illegal immigrants affect your ability to get decent health care.

Have you ever looked at where your tax money really goes?  How much is going to illegal immigrants?

Why don't you move to a more northern state where there are fewer hispanic people?  If they raise your blood pressure so much, you will end up paying even more for health care.

The thing you seem to so easily forget is that you might do the exact same thing if you lived in a country where you were unable to make a living and support your family.  Put yourself in their place.  Would you just sit there moaning and crying about how risky it would be to go to the US?  Or would you do the right thing by your wife and kids?  The fact that you can't imagine this scenario means you have no ability to empathize, which was my point.

by desertpear on 08/09/2008 04:18:59 PM EST

[ Parent ]
Let me address them one by one, calmly and rationally...

Death is always painful, but so is stupidity. 19 Mexicans stuffed into an SUV is just asking for trouble. I have a real hard time feeling overtly sad for people who make such stupid decisions...

As to the Health care Question - You have obviously never been to a doctors office, Emergency Clinic or Dentist in Arizona lately. All of these illegals demanding their free health care, waving their Access Cards (Thats what Medical is called here) yelling in Spanish at the clerks at the desk. God forbid you actually have an emergency around here, cause you're gonna wait HOURS behind Jose Jimenez and his 23 children with their sniveling noses and hepatitus skin. Dont get me started on what Dentists have to deal with around here...

As far as the tax money is concerned, I suppose I could go investigate hours on end what the socio/economic impact is exactly of people who dont belong here - but i have to work too hard to pay for all of these friendly "visitors" so they can sit high on the hog, call on their Iphones and use their food stamps at the local walmart. I work at an Elementary school, and I can tell you first hand that at least 20-30% of our kids are illegal or 1 step away from illegal (border cross babies). They dont speak the language, they suck the resources dry and they take menial jobs that drop wages and screw with our local economy - they are like vermin, like locusts who sweep through and destroy everything they see...

Have you ever tried getting a teaching job where there are no Mexicans? Better yet, have you found a place with no Mexicans anymore? I have lived in several states and they are everywhere!!! Granted, not in the numbers they are here in AZ, but throughout this country, they are infesting the nation - Pennsylvania, New York, Wyoming, The Carolinas - Even Hawaii, they come in droves and plant their asses...

In my particular profession, it is very difficult to get quality jobs at quality districts because people who have those jobs dare not give them up!!! Plus, quite Frankly, White People and even African Americans do not have the breeding/influx rates that hispanics do - Namely, they breed and expand like rabbits...

To your last point, perhaps the most important point of all - If the roles were reversed, and I as an American had to go to another country to seek a better life for my family, I would not EXPECT that host country to support me, feed me, take care of my medical expenses and welcome me with open arms. I would not feel myself in a position to demand rights that are not granted to me by my birth or my social status. I would know my place in soceity, and better yet, I would work to improve the conditions in my own country so I wouldnt have to depend on a bunch of foreigners to take care of me and my family.

Thats the difference between Americans and Mexicans - They expect to be taken care of, many of them dont recognize political borders and the results of wars a hundred years past.

This land is my land, It isnt their land...

Why do they not understand this?

Thank you for your time in this matter...

by bobo1 on 08/09/2008 04:40:09 PM EST

[ Parent ]

When you respond thoughtfully.  Even if we don't agree, we can understand each other's positions better if we aren't all worked up.

I guess what I was trying to say was that those people probably weren't "stupid" for stuffing themselves into the SUV, but were probably desperate and felt as if they didn't have a choice in that moment, which is the only moment that mattered.  Hindsight is usually 20/20.  So, that's where compassion comes in.  An attempt to understand what those people might have been going through to get to that level of desperation.

I agree that something needs to be done to control illegal immigration.  I would like to see fucking MEXICO do something about it especially, since there are obviously real problems there if people feel forced to leave their families behind to seek work.  Second, I believe responsibility has to rest firmly on the shoulders of those who hire these people or we are only treating the symptoms of a problem with no end.

The people who have made it here and are flying beneath the radar, well, I guess I don't see that blaming them will have any effect.  They are just doing what humans always do--looking out for number one.  Maybe they don't expect America to give them free services, but if they are offered, why should they refuse?

Hispanics tend to have more children because many are devoutly Catholic and they have very strong "family values."

Finally, I have to respond to this

This land is my land, It isnt their land...

Whose land was it before Europeans landed on these shores, not all that long ago?  We came, we killed the true Americans, we plundered their natural resources with the goal of starving them out.  This land was never "ours"; we just happened to be more powerful.  That is what all animals do, including humans--take what you can get, protect and increase your progeny, pass on your genes.  Bacteria do it, rats do it, white people do it, illegal immigrants do it.  We are hard wired to do so.  That's why I think it is useless to blame the immigrants. Work for political solutions.

cheers,

Angela

I know I tend to go overboard (especially on immigration), and my words were not kind or appropriate in this instance and for that I do apologize. As to your last comment as to who was here first - I always tell my students - "If you want to understand what can happen when you let illegals come and steal your country away from under you, go talk to the Native Americans - Look where they are now!!!" There is no political solution until people get pissed enough to do something about it - and believe me, lots of people 'round here are PISSED!!! Thanks again for your comments...

Bobo, don't use the Native Americans analogy unless you really think we should give the whole US back to them.  That premise would have made a lot more sense before we killed off most of them.  Now it would just be a misappropriation of space (as is, incidentally, refusing immigrants into the US on the pretense that "there isn't room for them" -- what a joke).

Have fun with your revolution.  Let me know how it turns out.

You come on down to Phoenix and take a look around. Hang down by my school and tell me who and who doesn't breed like rabbits! And that's not even counting the ones running across the border!!! They account for a large percentage of population coming in! Don't be dip, TWBA, you are usually smarter than that! :)

You should care about the graph I linked to. It shows that the fertility rate in Mexico, once quite high, has dropped down to match America's. That means the supply of excess Mexican laborers will drastically shrink soon.

It's a very good thing that you are against procreation. What this country needs is far fewer people like you.

Democrats are aborting themselves into extinction, while Republican families are veritable baby factories.

So the cumulative effect of widespread abortion, gay marriage, long prison sentences, and welfare reform is a steady decline in the population of moochers, democrats and assorted socialists.

Lets see, Pelosi is single handedly shutting down offshore drilling even while many Dems are willing to compromise on it.

So, how does this affect all the parties involved.  The Dems who are willing to compromise get to claim they did not stop the offshore drilling and the one person who did is the Rep from San Fran.  The most liberal district in the state most opposed to offshore drilling.  And you think this is going to hurt Pelosi?

Wake up, white people!  They are carving a 100 foot tall statue of Pelosi out of Seal droppings and Rice-a-Roni in Haight-Ashbury right now.  She gets to shut the pubs down, be a hero to her constituents and save the Democrats with one fell swoop.  Its genius!
