Getting attacked for being a Democrat in Pensacola Florida

I was attacked or smeared via my blog for being a Democrat at my local news paper.

I blog at the Pensacola News Journal at http://www.PNJ.com under the name "Pensacola". I also run the web site for the Escambia Democratic Executive Committee at http://www.escambiademocrat s.org.

This morning I posted a blog about the Saturday's Escambia Democrats canvassing events at Head Quarters and about a fish fry in the afternoon.

Escambia is the name of our county here in the western panhandle of Florida

At some point during the day between 9am and 11:30 people started flagging my profile as being offensive so my profile ended up becoming hid with a message that stated after I made changes it would be reviewed.

This is what my profile looks like:

Your profile information contains inappropriate content and has been hidden by our staff. Once you update your profile settings, we'll be happy to take a look and reinstate your profile.

My profile has looked basically just like since March, before I started running the DEC web site.

Regularly I blog about local events, scheduling and I invite people to the DEC web site for Information on candidates and Politically Progressive resources for media.

It is a great service that PNJ.com provides this to the community.

This morning my blog I had this information:

aturday Sept 27th. 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM Canvas. Meet at Headquarters, Wear your Lumon May t-shirt if you have one. You can get one at the canvas, if you haven't gotten one before. Lets make this a major effort and do 4 precincts that day.

Saturday Sept 27th.   12 Noon to 4 PM. Fish Fry and gathering at Lexington Park on Old Corry Field Rd between Navy and Barrancas.  Fish Sandwich plates are available for $5.00  otherwise the event is free. A number of groups have tents and it should be a good party.

I also had this youtube video:

Presidential Debate: The Right Judgment in Iraq

I had a few other Democrat and American pictures that were these:

I contacted the Pensacola News Journal to inquire as to why my profile was flagged and they said they had it set so if enough people hit the report icon to report it as offensive, that it automatically hides the offensive content.

If Pensacola were filled with honest people that process could work, but here I am doing what I do, promoting democracy as a volunteer and informing my neighbors of local and national politics and the bullies come out and shut me down. Not completely down, but enough that my blogs can't be rotated on the front page like everyone's blog post.

The News Journal person I talked to said the Internet people would not be back until Monday, so I miss out on other blogs for tomorrow and everyone misses out on a link to my other blogs, videos and information they might only have time to access and run across on the weekend.

Here in North West Florida we have some tough races going on.

We have Democrat Jim Bryan running for Congress against Republican Jeff Miller.

We have a Democrat,Mr Lumon May running for the State House District 3 against an incumbent.

We also have some challenging County Commissioner races and a tight race for the Sheriff of Escambia County with a mud slinging Republican from out of town, who invents his own mud.

 It's campaign season.

This is my first year ever being this involved.

Being disabled I don't get out much and this is something I can do to participate in this election. Helping to get candidates names out to the public.

I can't get my blogs to show up at PNJ.com until Monday and being that the Republican candidate for sheriff is running an article in the paper about filing charges for getting smeared, which is a fishing sounding story, I might follow suite in the morning and have what happened to my PNJ.com account reported to police.( It might be what is good for the Elephant can be good for the Donkey in this case.)

Under the same smear precedence of interfering with politics that this Republican candidate for sheriff is claiming, the same thing in type has happened to me.

The story on the sheriff candidate is someone photo shopped pictures of him in a strip club and passed them out as fliers. I think he made it up for free PR, but who knows.

I suppose it is that time of year for the Republican smears, the stealing of yard signs, ripping off bumber stickers, who knows what's coming next.

I hate this because it makes politics about everything but the issues and divides neighbors and we end up electing the wrong people for the wrong reasons.

If anyone finds the Country our Founding Fathers & Mothers left to us, the one I read about in civics books as a kid, I'd like to get home there one day.

I hope they restore your profile soon and this is cleared up.  You would think one of their people would have to check before removing it, but since it's automatic...ugh.

You didn't once call them "Republican scumbags".  One day I'll have to ask you how you did that.

You are being a very calm and reasonable person about this, so I will say what you couldn't:

What a bunch of intolerant communists who don't believe in the democratic process.

If you'd like, we TYT'ers can rally, go to the blog and deem all the repub users "inappropriate" and lock up the whole cite...

Just putting it out there. I know, bad Yasemin... Bad. Two wrongs don't make a right. bad. bad bad bad bad.

That American flag is sooo inappropriate, how dare you post an American flag on your blog.

I went through few emotions. Growled a bit. Did a little teeth grinding like Johnboy did when Obama had him on the run.(can't wait to watch EllyMay and Biden)

To clarify to the poster that said something about retaliating against the sight--a big fat no. Please do not do that.

The News Journal is just trying to have an efficient cost effective way of running their web site. That control auto set up was abused by some other member and hopefully this will comeback around and they won't get to participate on the PNJ.com web site.

We also have some fair minded Moderate Republicans in NW Florida as well as very Conservative Yellow Dog Democrats.

As the census goes in Escambia County Florida it was around 75K Democrat, 83K Republican and about 20K NPA in 2004.

 Here is the latest from:

 http://escambiavotes. com/votertrends.php

It's up a bit for NPA's and others and it looks like we have had about 5K in (R) and (D)'s move away from the area.

Voter turn out will hopefully be much better this year here and everywhere else.

I battle the Republican Extremist in the Forum section daily and what can I say? I'm an old, Young Turk. Trained by the best, graduate of the School of Hard Knocks.

Except for one mistake by admin at PNJ.com hitting the wrong "block user" icon for an offensive picture someone posted above or below one of my post, I've never been banned in three years of posting or Blogging.

Tact is really important in blogging. Sometimes it is hard to get the far to actually think, but some of them come around.

Others I feel like they have to be getting paid and have absolutely no conscious or sense of morality. They care more about what they convince people think instead of getting them to think for themselves and ecouuraging them to research.

They find information to use and manipulate others with, where we or me, look for information to learn and/or to educate.

I've really enjoyed and learned a lot from George Lakoff's lectures, specifically "Moral Politics-How Liberals and Conservatives think.

http://www.youtube.com/watc h?v=5f9R9MtkpqM

It's about an hour long, but worth the time IMO.

To update, I had a blog actually post and I started using another account I had started when I was improperly banned a few months ago.

My profile is still not visible but it most likely will be on Monday.

I appreciate the support. It really does suck to experience abuse of any kind.

Hopefully admin at PNJ.com will weed out these GOP tools and we will all be better for their failure to engage in actual thought and real conversation.

They don't call it the Redneck Riviera for nothing.

At least part of the problem is the Florida state government.

I am registered as an Independent (thankfully), but I volunteered for the Gore campaign in 2000 and am a volunteer for the Obama campaign this year. I work in computer security and have been active in exposing high-tech corruption in our voting systems.

In January, I was arrested near my office, and spent 11 days in County Jail.  I was doing absolutely nothing illegal (I was picked up riding my bicycle - the Sherrif had a state warrant).  I was never charged with anything, and did not even have an arraignment hearing.  In jail, I was first put in a psychiatric cell and then put in with the violent crime felons, even though I have never committed or been charged with any crime or even had a traffic ticket - I lead the "straightest" life of anyone I know.  It cost me $5,000 to have a lawyer bring my habeus corpus case to the Federal Courthouse in Miami, where a judge ordered a writ of habeus corpus ad subjiciendum - compelling Palm Beach County to either bring charges against me or release me.  They released me a couple of days later without ever filing any charges.

I can only guess that if I did not have the $5,000 to pay legal fees, I'd still be rotting in jail and the hackers would still have control of the vote tabulation computers.

Needless to say, I am no fan of Christ and as long as he rules the state this sort of thing will continue to happen.

That this could happen in America is extremely scary.  It violates every promise that was ever made to us about our country.

They put a Governor of Alabama in prison on false charges.  They unconstitutionally harrassed and arrested peaceful citizens by using SWAT teams to invade people's homes before the Republican Convention.   And now this.

When these sort of thing happens, it makes the necessity for change more urgent.  As they become more common, we must become less tolerant of the right.  There is a point where civil debate becomes meaningless and useless.

I pray that we can avert disaster.

Where McCain said:

"I have opposed the president on spending, on climate change, on torture of prisoner, on - on Guantanamo Bay."

and then, later:

"So we have a long way to go in our intelligence services. We have to do a better job in human intelligence. And we've got to -- to make sure that we have people who are trained interrogators so that we don't ever torture a prisoner ever again."

This first sentence was only partially true, for the last two years McCain has voted in favor of Bush laws that allow torture, and he has defended "enhanced interrogation techniques".

But in the second sentence, McCain flat-out admits that the US tortures prisoners.  Nobody brings this up about the debate, but I thought it was significant.

IF Obama is elected Prisoner, hundreds of political prisoners will be released.

will try anything to keep the truth from getting out. The fact that they didn't ignore you is a sign that you are doing a great job.

Republicans portray the government as the enemy. Then when they take over, they prove it.

It's interesting, lol. I must of sparked a small fire with my TYT blog. Somewhere someone did something and it is appreciated.

My profile on my main screen name is not fixed yet, but the blog I posted this morning under my other account "PensacolaHW" has become a sticky and the bottom blog post are rotating out.

They need to make more space available where more blog post show at any given time. Like on The Young Turks site. There is a good chance a blog will be visible on the front page for hours, which is good.

I got some awesome news that General Wesley Clark is coming to Pensacola this week. I'm excited. Hope I get to meet him. Maybe Wes will be tagging along. I will be in my TYT uniform. (Ok,my very comfortable TYT T-shirt).
