Men's Health Praises Bush For...?

Since it's halftime (and the Cardinals are crushing the Eagles in a way even Arizona natives couldn't have predicted) I started flipping through an issue of Men's Health.

I stumbled onto an article titled 'May The Most Authentic Man Win' that is supposed to give you life lessons based off of politics. There were two things that jumped out at me, especially in the context of Cenk's recent rant on George Bush being a fake cowboy:

1)-"...Bush didn't pretend to be a Rhodes scholar. His persona was that of a religious straight shooter who told it like he saw it. He was selling his gut instinct and bravado, and since he had those in spades, the American people gave him the job."

2)-Side by side pictures with Kerry windsurfing and Bush clearing Bush. Here is the caption: "John Kerry feigns athleticism in this 2004 photo released by his campaign. George W. Bush, meanwhile, looks quite comfortable clearing brush."

To be fair, the author does take a couple of 'dumb Bush' jabs, and later in the article he identifies himself as a moderate Democrat.

Still, there was clearly some ridiculousness in this article. And yes, John Kerry was in fact a poor candidate, for the record.

It pains me to here the pundits on both sides using kid’s gloves in their closing statements on Bush. The pure lack of understanding about the damage done is exactly why we ended up here.

I think the pundits are so caught up in the lime light and polls that they have lost touch with reality. The polls in themselves have become self-fulfilling. People base their opinions on the same shallow an misleading sound bites driving the polls. Just another circular firing squad.

"The most authentic candidate from the past 8 years didn't even make it to the general election in 2000 or 2004. I'm talking about the maverick senator from Arizona named John McCain, who ran against Bush in the 2000 primary."

Whaaaa?

Writing like that is total horse shit. What annoys me about the Clearer vs the Windsurfer is that the shots of bush "clearing" were taken by invited media. It was yet another piece of stagecraft by the Bush political machine. The windsurfing shots were taken by paparazzi from the shore while Kerry was vacationing.

And what the fuck is wrong with windsurfing? You ever tried? I tried once, couldn't do it. That shit is hard. Takes balance, strength, coordination. It's absurd that people are somehow able to manipulate what amounts to a minor hobby into a profound character flaw. Maybe they were mad that Kerry's was using wind power and not oil or coal to do his surfing.

(BTW, Kerry looked like a complete joke when his campaign stagecrafted his hunting trip.)

How about when he rode the Harley out on stage wearing a leather jacket? or "Reporting for Duty". I thought he was telling us he crapped his pants.

Dean would have won that election if Kennedy had not screwed with the Iowa caucus.

In all fairness though, the best thing that ever happended John was loosing that election, otherwise he would be the fall guy for all the Bush blunders.

Would have NEVER beat Bush or anyone for that matter in the 2004 election... The man is obviously off balance and psycho - now for those of you who will reply with "then how do you explain why the Dems did so well in the last election", I simply reply that a warm pile of dog shit would have (and did) beat the Republicans - so we now have a Legislature full of dog shit and Howard Dean is still Nucking Futs! :)

you have for howard dean being "nuts" is that he screamed into a microphone at what was effectively a political pep rally. Ooh, devastating, we'll never get over it. In reality, Howard Dean is a cool customer, an excellent public speaker, and he's been right about damn near everything for 8 years running.

Just watch him during TV interviews - he's literally listening to the voices. His rapid eye motion is a dead give away... The Democrats won because the Republicans trashed themselves beyond recognition and repair, not because the Democrats did anything significant - all being said, Howard Dean never wins a national election in this country - he's just too fucking nuts! :)

He said his (Dean's) eyes move in interviews! Didn't you get that? Its irrefutable.

Bobo, as usual, backed away quietly from my challenge to him to provide any evidence at all for his silly claim. He won't be coming back.

When determining the true inner being of someone, the burden of what you call proof is non existent - I've been around enough crazies and am a little off balanced myself enough to know when someone is fucking nutty. Howard Dean is fucking nutty. It takes one to know one, and "I are one" (thanks to Jeff Foxworthy for letting me say that)! Howard Dean never wins national election in this country - he's nuts! The Democrats won because the Republicans went off their message and imploded. Howard Dean had NOTHING to do with it! Stop giving credit to someone who doesn't deserve any! :)

Do other people's impressions of him count, or are we all just supposed to believe yours?

And craziness isn't why you're off balance.  That comes from a little thing called "alcoholism".

How weird is this?

What, bobo can't handle the "towel snappy" atmosphere that you're so fond of here at TYT?  What's a little gentle ribbing between friends?  I seem to remember a while ago, when I told a poster that my girlfriend had been laid off, and bobo came in and made jokes about her being a stripper and what have you out of nowhere.  Did I get all bent out of shape?  Nope.  Me and bobo have an understanding.  I make hilarious jokes at his expense, and he...  well, god love him, he tries.

See how that towel snappiness works?  I'm not going to call in ringers to defend me because you were "rude".  I'm just going to weep silently to myself like I always do.

you a warm fuzzy feeling to know that a guy that is "nuts" devised a strategy that didnt just win it crushed .

You seem to be a little in denial when 2 million people thats million with an m people showed up at Obamas inauguration and he has an 85 percent approval rating.

That cant be explained away with your quaint notions.

Btw you predicted that Obama would lose big time because the country was so racist. Why even those that said they would vote for Obama would vote for the white guy once alone in the voting booth.

I bet you are shaken by the idea of a black man in the White House. Hey that has a nice ring to it.

But dont worry you still will have the freedom to be a racist. Its just that you are in the minority and will be disdained for it.

P.S you can still be a gay basher too just like Fred Phelps and everyone knows how much respect people have for him.

:)

Did you know that Lou Dobbs was running the national debt ticker during his show prior to the 2004 election and the right wing controlled media made him pull it?  The truth was pissing too many people off. The moral of the story is, that there were 50 different Bush fires burning by then, including the Governors’ suing the Bush Administration over sub-prime loans and predatory lending. That was also post Enron and post no WMD & Downing Street, not to mention the exploding deficit.
If people understood what he had been doing they would have thrown him out in 2004. Of course that would require unbiased media coverage, and some honesty. We knew since 2001 that the repeal of Glass Steagle was as bad idea, but these guys always think their smarter than everyone else and 50% of the population is stupid enough to believe them, Tex.

the US Senate;

now if only Barack Obama can clear the Bush b(ull)rush quickly, so he can get down to the necessary job at hand --- it's the ECONOMY st^^id.

by gatekeeper50 on 01/19/2009 01:51:41 PM EST

Hate Bush all you want, but "real Americans" still love the guy apparently.  Sadly, only around 30% of American citizens are "real" anymore.  I guess this country is majority Swiss now or some shit.

But why is Men's Health writing about this anyway?  Did they run out of things to make washboard-like?  Are there no more secrets to making my woman scream?  Why is every magazine now also a politcal magazine?  I don't care what the editors of Cat Fancy think about the last eight years.  Sometimes I just want  to read about cats...  that I fancy.

by Spencer on 01/19/2009 02:56:52 PM EST

But what criteria are you judging the 30% as "real" and the 70% as "unreal"?

"...Bush didn't pretend to be a Rhodes scholar."

Conflicting with his years at elite New England prep schools and Ivy League colleges.

Bush was all pretend. He pretended to be a rancher, he pretended to serve in the military, he pretended to run businesses, he pretended to work at being President.

Not sure it makes any difference anymore. Maybe the unemployment number or foreclosures would be better at this point.

Even better, bankers and corporate executives doing the perp walk and having their off shore accounts frozen. Now we are talking!
