President-elect Barack Obama says he will bar pork-barrel projects from the massive economic stimulus bill he wants Congress to pass.

Obama said Tuesday that his plan, expected to cost about $775 billion, will not allow lawmakers to insert pet projects, as they sometimes do on spending bills.

He told reporters at his transition office in Washington that his package will set a "new higher standard of accountability, transparency and oversight. We are going to ban all earmarks, the process by which individual members insert projects without review."

How corrupt!  Seat Burris now!  Insert other completely asinine non-sequitur about how terrible Obama is before his administration has even started here!

Because his spending package is FILLED with Pork already built in!!!

As I understand the workings of the new stimulus package, The states will control federally allocated grant/block money to spend as it chooses within certain parameters - In essence, they are given the money, and the pork will be decided on at the state level!


So sure, the lawmakers in Washington wont be able to add additional spending, but the amounts the states are getting are going to be so exorbidant that the pork is essentially built in to the package!!!


Please, Jarrett, come at me with something better than smoke and mirrors. A "Stimulus Spending Package" at a cost of 800 Billion is enough pork for everyone to get fat on - believe me!!!

Jarrett, please dont be so naive to think that this "infrastructure" money isnt just more unregulated and untracable pork, just like the bank bailout was...

Its still"pork", Jarrett - its the government spending money it simply does not have! I won't disagree that we need infrastructure improvement in this country, but you know as well as I do that not even a third of this TRILLION dollars is actually going to benefit the people - it is simply going to "disappear" into the big corporations and politicians pockets... As always... :)

Bobo is right in asserting that by definition this "stimulus" package is nothing BUT "pork." Why would anyone NEED to add a rider? Just because it doesn't come CLOSE to the abuses of the Republican's bacon-filled ways doesn't make it taste any less sausage-y

Another point being overlooked is: Who da fuck does Obama think he is telling Congress how to frame a bill? I didn't like that shit from Reagan, either Bush or Clinton, why should I think it appropriate NOW? Congress presents the bill. He can either pass it along or veto it - he doesn't have the right to make such demands.

Pork isnt spending money we dont have. Pork is inserting a provision in a bill  that have nothing whatsoever to do with the bill they where inserted into to siphon money to a particular reps  district.
