Cenk a little homophobic?

Is it just me, or does Cenk use the phrase"that's gay" quite often?  I don't know, but even that phrase seems kind of harsh.  Just that alone and I wouldn't have thought that Cenk has offensive feelings towards the gay community.

However, in the latest episode and in past episodes, he refers to things as being gay, which he just doesn't like or doesn't understand.  When Anna defends Richard Simmons about his enthusiasm for working out, Cenk repeats that it is just gay, and flames are springing out of the screen if he is watching someone trying to inspire someone to work out.

I just don't know, but I support equal rights for all individuals, and have no misconceptions about workout professionals being "all gay".  Can't someone just be Enthusiastic?

As in, he doesn't mean anything by it. Cenk is like a big adolescent. Intellectually curious, yes, but socially still a high school kid. That accounts for his girly gossip sessions with Ana, and his gee-whiz fascination with anything sexual. "Gay" in this context is a low-caliber slur that even grade schoolers don't use anymore.

"that's gay"  is so last month. But I would have to add that despite Cenk professing to be a friend of the LGBT community, there is a certain underlying uneasiness. He is not casual about his support , its forced. What I mean to say is, Cenk doesn't seem comfortable with LGBT's , but feels he has to support the community because it is the right thing to do.

Either way, his support is appreciated I have no doubt.

Have you videos of Cenk discussing these issues?

Better yet, did you read his recent article on it that has around 70,000 views and 700 comments at Huffington Post?

In my opinion the article is more about the hypocrisy of the religious right than it is about gay rights. In any event I think he would defend gay rights.

discussing prop 8 and marriage equality?

Part of his argument is regarding the religious right, but another (huge) part of it is his argument that it's a civil rights issue.

There a couple good clips in this list.

Ken, stop!  You're shaking the foundation of my entire life!  Black is white, up is down!  Stop the madness!  This must be what it felt like for you when Rush told you that he was totally full of shit.

Republicans always criticize AFTER the fact, when it's too late *or* popular to do so.

The best example of a lack of criticism of Bush year after year after year. He got a 90%+ free pass for the first 5 years or so.

And the few times he was criticized from popular conservative media figures it was on no-brainer issues, again, when it was very easy to do so.  These fuck-faces shut up and fall in line until it's too late, unlike Cenk who has pissed off many a progressive for being honest and critical even when it's unpopular.

Rush is saying that he's been LYING to you to keep Republicans in power.  That's a completely different thing than saying that Democrats should be stronger.  Limbaugh is essentially saying that he doesn't base his show on what he actually believes, because it sounds like he believes that Bush has been fucking up for the past four years (or six years now), but he never seemed to want to tell his audience that.

This is emblematic of something larger, where the difference between liberals and conservatives is really stark.  Libs want to have actual debates where we take all of the sides and points into account, even ones that disagree with us.  Cenk does it all the time.  Democrats do it all the time, and exploiting that is the reason that Republicans have gotten away with so much bullshit in the past.  But conservatives, on the other hand, just want to win, no matter what.  Deny that anything they've ever done was wrong,  stick their fingers in their ears and yell over your opposition, lie, cheat, steal, whatever.  Just win.  Go team!

Probably the same way it felt to you when Cenk said he didn't approve of the tactics of Reid and Pelosi in 2007.

I 100% agreed with him.

See, we aren't hardcore ideologues like you folk are.  We can admit deviance from the party line.

Turns out diversity is our strength.  Funny.

Getting kind of sick of the Extreme PC mentality some people show with life.  If you are not 100% "omg i love gay people they are the awesomeness!"  your "homophobic".&nbs p;  I personally have no issues with gay people what they do, i think they should have the same rights as others,  but seriously the thought of two guys kissing to ME is disgusting personally.   For a straight male these are NORMAL thoughts,   DO i think gay men shouldnt kiss? no, that is what they want to do and they have that right.

Am i homophobic? no i just dont like the thought of kissing a guy or the image of 2 guys kissing.   Yet ill get called a homophobe cause im not celebrating their love.    Some people Like to wear rubber suits or furry costumes when they do it, to me that also is Nasty,  but im not about to go out and tell people they cant,  however im not a furryphobe, its just not my cup of tea.

The word GAY btw, meant for THOUSANDS of years "extreme happyness, to the point of childish delights".   Mebe Cenk is just Taking the word back.   WHy does it have to mean "oh tahts for gay people" when he could just mean "thats childish or to sweet for a grown man"

why do you have to get all PC on everything anyway,  Let it go and unclench, stop trying to turn the worlds vocabulary into a NAZI'esque  "you cant say that cause it offends me"

get thicker skin and stop with the Drama, its how conflicts start.

Maybe Cenk is taking the word gay back?

He regularly uses the term derogatorily and he should eliminate it from his repertoire.  Having said that I do agree that LGBT enthusiasts do sometime get a little too militant.  Plus not only did they purloin the term gay but they also totally stole the rainbow!  Pretty selfish gays!

by amst1d on 01/07/2009 04:02:59 PM EST

he doesnt use it in any dirogatory manner, and Honestly ENough PC policing.  If it bugs you, stop listening, stop trying to make everything PC.   its like what people keep trying to do to comedy.

I am not policing anything!  Using the term gay to describe an activity that you find squeamish is like using the term gyp to describe a transaction about which you fell less than satisfied.  It is derogatory.  You don't have to like that fact but it makes it no less a fact.  And I'll watch whatever I like and comment on it honestly.  Quit telling people how comment you fucking nazi.

equating  gay to  lame

Jesus I cant stand people who dont even know how lame that is.

FUN FACT!
At my high school, the two most popular pejorative adjectives were "gay" and "retarded." But at the other public high school in my city, they had a different adjective of choice for all things objectionable. You know what it was? I swear I'm not making this up: "Jewish."

First time I heard that, I was shocked. SHOCKED! Even as a teenager. I responded, "Are you serious? That's retarded! What are you, dyslexic?"

But think of it this way: It's now completely acceptable (and not considered offensive) to use the adjective "lame" to describe something that's....uh, lame. But that's not really much better than saying, "Wow, that pep rally was totally handicapped" or "My friends all like the Offspring but I think their songs are developmentally disabled."

I was just blogging what I noticed after watching the program for a little while now.

I'm an actually liberal, and I believe that quite a few other fellow individuals are liberals aswell, just to certain degrees.

Using gay as a derogatory term, is one with underlying issues.  As in such, they use "that is gay" to describe something as unappealing to themselves.  One would think, that if you were a true progressive, a "gay person" would not upset you.  I honestly don't mind if two individuals of the same sex have intercourse.  I believe they should have the same rights as anyone else.

So if someone being gay, offends you, as you use the term "that is gay" to describe things that offend you, then I would say, you are not quite as much of a liberal as you would state.

I was just curious if anyone else picked this up.

by Lesdeth on 01/08/2009 11:13:58 AM EST

The issue at hand is if its acceptible to use the term gay when describing anything.

I myself do not USE gay when referring to anything, but im not going to infringe on someones rights to do so.  I also have no qualms with people posting their thoughts online.   However i DO have to speak up when The PC police keep trying to change things.

You cant use the term midget anymore, it has to be LIttle person,  You cant use disabled you have to say Some alternate version of disabled, now "handycapable" or some other PC term.

PC solutions because someone took offense has equalled in MY view, the Most Horrendous form of public censorship.  IE cant say Merry christmas at some Stores, you have to say happy holidays.  (no im not a christian im agnostic, but still.... cmon seriously?)

Where does it end?

Like george carlin said in one of his famous skits.   IT has to end or your going to end "a male walked into a establishment and said hellow.... thats the joke... at least all you can say anymore."

NOW that said...  There ARE certain things that SHOULD have changed, things said with hateful intentions like "nigger" or other words that imply a HATRED for a people.   THese DO incite hate and SHOULD be wiped from our Verbal dictionarys.  &nb sp; However gay, when spoken by cenk, or many others implys NO dislike of Homosexual people, it IS simply stating "This thing i am speaking of, is definately not for me"  Yet people want to infer that its homophobic/hateful to say, when they demonstrate ignorance by doing it, and rather thin Skin.

and Gypped when you get ripped off?  Lol i never even knew that was in reference to gypsys.  So you mean a common phrase that came when a people were unfairly traded with by gypsys who were the carni folk of the day, is now hateful because its offensive to gypsys..... wow.

You do realize though that Almost all of our words came from events that needed description, and to edit all of them because they may be somehow offensive....  Assanine.

PC policing is where its gone TOO Far,  STick to hate words, leave everything else alone.

Hell i have Native american in me, and when I sent my kid to school i heard he now has to sit "kriss cross applesauce" when folding his legs when he sits, because "sitting indian style" was "offensive to native americans"

how?  .... how the hell was that offensive?  ^ That is what happens when PC police get their way.   Its about one persons oppinion forcing the rest of the world to change their behaviors.

I find Anna's "i like my men with flavor" offensive to white men, and a lil racist, but am i gonna declare she stop saying it?

(this reply was a conglomerate of replys to a few people, not just you, sorry i didnt feel like posting 20x)
