Best TYT Comment of 2008

2008 was an amazing year. And TYT's forum had some amazing diaries and comments. Let's recognize the best comment of the past year.

I nominate this gem as best comment of 2008:

Is this all you got? (none / 0)
President elect Obama is probably going to be the most popular president in U.S history and all you can do is re live the election, trying to tarnish him with perceived wrong doing and guilt by association?

Get real

by Chinese Democracy on 12/10/2008 05:40:37 PM EST

That's right, CD didn't even wait for President-elect Teleprompter Jesus to be sworn in before predicting his awesomeness. Nice job, CD.

... every idiotic post/comment by bobo1?

Ok... how about this one:

There is no implosion coming, Palin is a GODSEND to the McCain Campaign...

*ding* *ding* *ding* I think we have a winner!

Thanks bobo1 for another wonderful year of intuitive thought!

by designs on 01/08/2009 09:41:12 AM EST

Bobo1 is not wrong in that diary. Palin rejuvenated McCain's campaign. It was McCain who caused the implosion by suspending his campaign and supporting a bailout that was overwhelmingly opposed by the Republican base.

by Qwerty on 01/08/2009 09:55:45 AM EST

Ha! REJUVENATE? Why, because Palin's birth didn't predate the invention of the cotton gin? Sorry, but you say "potato," I say "Palin made McCain extra-super unelectable."

I say "Palin made McCain extra-super unelectable."

Who would have helped McCain more? Would he have done better if he had chosen a boring blob like Tim Pawlenty? If Palin brought a landslide defeat, then name one person who would have at least narrowed the margin, if not outright won the election.

Who would have helped McCain more?

My kid brother, just to name one. He knows how to form complete sentences.

Seriously, dude. What's this really about? You sit on a fire hydrant this morning or something? Obama won and Sarah Palin is the punchline to about a thousand dirty jokes now. If you think I'm wrong, let's change the Republican Party's name to the Palin Party and see where that gets you.

...McCain had actually come close in the election. It was a blow out mainly because McCain did choose Palin whose lack of expertise in economic matters became known very quickly. If the Presidential election was only to get the evangelical vote, then bobo1 might have been right. Luckily for us it wasn't.

It was a blow out mainly because McCain did choose Palin whose lack of expertise in economic matters became known very quickly.

Then explain how Teleprompter Jesus' lack of expertise in economic matters did not stop the blow out.

by Qwerty on 01/08/2009 11:59:49 AM EST

Teleprompter Jesus' lack of expertise in economics didn't show whenever he answered questions about economy. His failure to appear stupid has followed him throughout his carreer, even two years of constant scrutiny by the press. His run of incompetence to prove right-wing talk show hosts and internet posters like yourself to be smarter than they sound is unparalleled. Its a wonder anyone voted for him.

Teleprompter Jesus' lack of expertise in economics didn't show whenever he answered questions about economy.

His lack of economic knowledge showed through often. Most American voters are also ignorant of economics and were therefore unable to detect Teleprompter Jesus' weakness.

His failure to appear stupid has followed him throughout his carreer, even two years of constant scrutiny by the press.

Two years of softball questions and celebrity worship are hardly ideal preparation for facing reality's hardball tactics. We shall soon see just how competent Teleprompter Jesus is.

is one area in which George W. Bush and John S. McCain have outperformed their democratic counterparts spectacularly. What a brilliant Ruse! Their reverse-psychology jujitsu will be the subject of political science theses for decades to come. I admit, they even had me convinced for a while. But no more! The veil has fallen.

John P.O.W. Maverick spent so much time reaching across the aisle he was an honorary Democrat, at least until he crossed paths with the media's candidate, Teleprompter Jesus. The election came down to choosing either a socialist president with a moron vice president or a socialist president with a vice president who looks good in a skirt. The American people chose the socialist and the moron by a small margin. We'll see how that works out over the next four years.

the following gem from bobo. Up to the point when he posted this I took him seriously (reasonable people can disagree). After being given multiple opportunities in the ensuing weeks to retract/clarify, he refused. He made an equally egregious statement about mexicans (spencer has it somewheres) a little later I think, but this is the post that opened my eyes to the fact that bobo is prone to violence and probably unreachable. He's our very own Ted Kazcinski.

And further will predict that we will be seeing a lot more tragedy in that vein due to our sagging economy and our future president's lack of skill to fix it... If you re-read the post, hazzie, you would understand that I wasn't condoning violence, rather I was understanding where the violence emerged from and offered a pathway to cut off the problem before it resulted in death - if you do not understand WHY people can feel that way, you will never be able to help them resist the temptation to act violently - Israel and Palestine is a perfect example of what your kind of name-calling - comic book reading fantasy solutions create. Might isn't always right, but neither is blissful ignorance of hard reality... :)

that you are saying we should try to understand why terrorists are bombing people in Palestine and New York? I just want to be very clear here. The underlying issue I took with your original post was that conservatives are hypocritical when it comes to terrorists. If its a conservative domestic terrorist we need to "understand" where he's coming from. If its a palestinian terrorist, he's not human and his motivations don't factor into our prevention efforts. Karl Rove accused liberals of offering "therapy" to terrorists for advocating the same position that you are here.

by hazmat on 01/09/2009 12:02:23 PM EST

[ Parent ]
I understood where that particular shooter (the one in TN) was coming from. I also said that he obviously had some mental issues or afflictions that seriously hampered his ability to determine right and wrong, or at least it interrupted his ability to care about such limitations... As for "foreign" terrorists, I don't think its very difficult to understand why they attack us, or why they do what they do - it really depends on context and understanding both sides of an issue - something neither Conservatives nor Liberals are very good at doing. :)

by bobo1 on 01/09/2009 09:06:46 PM EST

[ Parent ]

so do you agree that terrorists "hate us for our freedoms". Now I'll admit that even I was susceptible to this rhetoric in the days and weeks after 9-11. But the question is, as time passes, and as you're trying you're level best to dismantle and undermine your enemy, are generalizations like this accurate or even productive? George W. Bush caste domestic political opposition, however mild, as "giving succor to the enemy". I'd like to remind you that Bush had a 95% approval rating on Sept 15th. Was it acceptable in your view for Rove and Bush to divide Americans this way in the face of an "existential threat"?

I'm laying 50:1 odds that Bobo gets the wrong answer.

by hazmat on 01/09/2009 09:55:29 PM EST

[ Parent ]
Is that there are no such thing as "right" and "wrong" answers in dealing with these sorts of issues - there is only ones opinions and differing degrees of agreement or disagreement - My opinion of Bush and company is as follows - I for one am still somewhat of a conspiralist when it comes to 9/11 - I believe in the concept of Occhams (sp) Razor - the simplest explanation of an event is usually the correct one - It seems more plausible to me that our government conspired to take those buildings down to use as a catalyst for future events rather than believing that 19 guys who used to live in caves all came here, learned to fly jet airliners, boarded 4 seperate planes all at the same time at 4 seperate locations and coordinated a timed attack within an hour of each other using things as simple as a fucking box cutter they give the stock boys at grocery stores everyday... That being said, I believe that Bush's and Rove's actions were somewhat preordained and rehearsed, therefore not giving them much creedence to begin with - It was always the plan to divide and conquer the thoughts and minds of the American people in order to slide their agenda through without too much opposition (other than from the Dennis Kucinich crowd). It was wrong of them to decieve us, but people who are willing to kill thousnads of Americans really don't care about right and wrong... As for terrorism in general, and ways to "combat" it, different situations require different types of solutions, no one way being as effective as the other - in terms of Middle Eastern terrorism, one must understand that this is a conflict dating back to the 1000s and some would say earlier - only now are we in an era that information and mass communication where bad shit can affect a mass population relatively quickly. I'm gonna stop now - my thumbs are tired on this damn Blackberry! :)

How can you besmirch the name of that Great American, Patriot, Super Secret Ninja trained, military genius Bytch to the Bang?

But for the old bad knee (I'm too old and somewhat unable to meet the physical challenges. Thanks (in part) to a knee injury I got jumping off the back of a six by during training.) our gallant hero would today be performing Rambo like solo missions (I'll not disclose the details) But basically... if you have ever watched Mel Gibson in "the Patriot".... It was a variation of "aim small miss small.") deep in the mountain regions of Afghanistan hunting down and exterminating the enemies of America.

We should now bow our heads in a moment of silence for our deleted member the only REAL American to ever grace us with his presence on this forum.....BytchBang.

BB certainly stayed around until he met his untimely demise at the hands of the Dave.

BigSkyChild was around for a while and I always thought her post were more tongue in cheek than the "look at me I'm a hero" The Bytch and a few others have come with.

The problem I have with people like BytchiePooh was he tried to play the "I served" card from the get go as if it gave him some "special" insight into the war.

Millions of people have "served" some conservative, some liberal, and some moderates, but it doesn't make them all experts on foreign policy, military tactics, or military law. Just like learning how to change the oil in your car doesn't make you a mechanic.

Several members of this forum have "served" proudly, but don't wear it on their chest everyday like it makes them more of a patriot than others who haven't like our departed Bytch did.

For the most part it's the "Pro-war" bullshit artists who play the "I served" card to give themselves credibility for their position.

Bytch was just the most blatant example on this forum, but their have been others who appeared here who made the claim on both sides of the argument.

I don't dismiss every person who claims to have served as "Phony" if they don't agree with my positions like Rush and other Right Wing Talking Heads do, but I will call "BULLSHIT" when I see bullshit, like The Bytch tried to serve us. As Toucan Sam told us as children "Follow your nose it always knows."
