White House gives elbow from the sky to Fox News

In the official White House blog, the Obama Administration finally takes a stance against Fox News and their "disregard for the facts."

 It's about time.

BECK SAID VANCOUVER LOST $1 BILLION WHEN IT "HAD THE OLYMPICS."   Glenn Beck said, "Vancouver lost, how much was it? they lost a billion dollars when they had the Olympics."  [Transcript, Glenn Beck Show, 9/29/09]

REALITY:  VANCOUVER'S OLYMPICS WILL NOT TAKE PLACE UNTIL 2010.

I mean, why bother with the truth when you can just make stuff up as you go?

Hopefully they'll do this more often.

Thanks for the link.

Having the white house directly attack Glen Beck empowers him.  It should have been done by a political action committee and he should have been sued in court for libel and defamation.

Now Glen Beck as risen to the level of the President.  It will only increase the number of listeners and the shrillness of everything he does.  Next Pres Obama will be doing a talk show.

Don't waste your vote, vote Green or Independent in the next election.

LOL@ the idea of Obama doing a talk show.

He's good at reading a prepared speech. But he's no orator like Ron Reagan was, or JFK.

OTOH, he's certainly a far better speaker than Gerald Ford, and he hasn't fallen down any stairs lately :)

I'd rate Obama's oratorical skills at roughly the LBJ-equivalent level. Before you object, go back and watch Johnson's Great Society speech; I'm sure it's available at YouTube.

Reagan read prepared speeches too. In fact, given his age, I'd be surprised if he said a single word unscripted. Every president reads prepared speeches.

Granted, Beck is within his rights but O'Donnell didn't go anywhere near as far as Beck does every night.

The thing is: Beck and Limbaugh are the voices of the real opposition. There is no single Republican politician who has nearly the forum and demagoguing skills those guys have. So it would only be natural that the President goes for the big shots of his opponents. It may increase the number of listeners, and that may help the fringe in the short-term. In the long-run OTOH Beck and Limbaugh either suck their listeners into the loonie bin or drive them away (ideologically) with their far-fetched, insane rants.

It was only Rush listener who realised what radical, hatefilled demagogues the right-wing were.

In case you hadn't noticed, you need to appeal to people outside the batsh*t fringe to win elections and Rush is about as popular with the mainstream as syphilis. So, you get all the batsh*t fringe who watch Faux and absolutely no-one else.

'bout time.

by Ebon on 10/02/2009 02:28:11 AM EST

Ken, you keep emphasizing that Beck is now an "equal opponent" to the Obama administration, like that was something good for the right wing.

The White House is in fact choosing its opponents, and this time they took Glenn Beck because he has proven to be a lunatic. They're defining Beck as a liar and a moron, thereby discrediting the whole Fox News network.

It is a clear sign that they won't allow right-wing talking heads to set the agenda anymore, but take them head on, calling them out for their lies. If they do that, the fights will be very easy, and Fox News will soon have lost all credibility.

Not giving them access to the President on his interview day was the first sign that they're changing their strategy. Now the second step, and you applaud it like Glenn Beck would be a good representative of your cause. In fact they'll let him destroy your cause.

Their ratings are irrelevant for Obama. What's important for him is how independent voters are perceiving it. And while Obama's approval ratings have fallen (as they always do early in a new President's term), the Republicans' ratings are even worse.

As far as "Glenn Beck has already defeated Barack Obama several times" is concerned, that's exactly what is going to change now. He "defeated" Obama because the White House didn't join the fight. Now they're joining the fight.

supposed to do? When the politicians on the other side of the aisle have donated their balls to the RW talk show hosts?

If he has the balls himself he goes where his opponents balls are. By going after Beck and Limbaugh he (or other Democrats) hits all the people who are dwelling up their asses.

We hit people in the sack. #2
