11/19/09 - Vote TYT : 2009 Podcast Awards Info

Important info about the voting process for the 2009 Podcast Awards. TYT FTW in the Political Podcast category.

1. Go to www.podcastawards.com to vote.

2. Voting begins this Friday, November 13th and ends November 30th.

3. You can vote once a day EVERY day during the voting period (after you place your vote remember to verify your vote through your email, this is really easy and only takes a second, however the vote isn't counted until it's verified via your email)

4. We also are asking for your vote for the Best of the Left podcast (a friend of the show) in the Best Produced category.

5. Mount up TYT Nation! We are up against some big names (Rush Limbaugh, etc.) so we're gonna have to strike in full force in order to win. Remember to vote once a day every day!

TYT FTW!!!

Here is the step by step update:

1. Go to www.podcastawards.com to vote. Just look for the category titled 'Political' on the lower right side of the page (they're listed in alphabetical order) and click the circle next to 'The Young Turks'.

2. Then scroll down and put in your name and email address under 'Your Details', click the 'Listener' circle and then click 'Submit' over to the right.

3. Then check your email, open the message from podcastawards.com and click the link to verify you vote.

Not only are we up against Rush, we're also up against some libertarian podcast. Losing to anyone is unacceptable, but losing to right wingers?

Can't do it!

Remember to vote every single day!  No excuses for missing a day.  Make it a habit when you watch TYT from now on to also submit your daily vote.  We can beat a show with an audience 17 times our size if we vote everyday and they don't.

We have huge advantages:

1. TYT is a daily show where many others are only weekly => more reminders to vote.

2.  We are online. TV and Radio show podcasts will have to rely on their audiences getting online to vote.  We are already online.

 3. We are TYT Nation.  Do you think any of those other audiences are as passionate as we are?

This is our award to lose.  Let's go get'em.

Problem is this poll is far from reliable. Anyone can make a slew of throw away gmail or yahoo addresses and vote dozens of times everyday.

And let's face it many republicans apparently have nothing better to do then troll the internet all day.

Really wish they would find a better way for the polls/voting.

Voting more than once in the same day would not only require multiple email accounts, but also multiple internet connections. Sure, a good chunk of people might have internet access at work and maybe a friend's house (etc.), but overall I don't think it'll be an issue.

Will it count if we vote with more than one email account?

by reba on 11/13/2009 12:44:31 PM EST

according to the rules. That means you can't vote from two email accounts using the same computer/internet connection.

On the one hand that makes perfect sense because one person could vote 5 times using 10 email accounts. On the other hand I live with my GF and this means she can't vote on our computer. I guess she could use her work computer, but not to vote EVERY day from now until 11/30/09.

If anyone has a different understanding of the rules, please comment here.

Thanks for looking that up for me.  Apparently I'm super lazy.  I assume you meant to type IP and not ISP.

I will go forth with different computers.

Thanks for clarifying that Tom, we absolutely can't try to vote more than once or TYT could get disqualified.

Yeah but people can, and easily to. Disable cookies and masking your IP is pretty easy to do. :(

If so, maybe this post should be stickied until 30 November.

I just voted for TYT.

But I am not going to go back and vote again every day.

What a comical and ridiculous system. Each person should be able to vote only once. That should be f-ing obvious and so I am not going to go back and vote again, what a pain in the ass.

by huwrj on 11/14/2009 12:16:20 AM EST

Get your ass back there tomorrow and vote.  What's the matter with you?

he wants Rush Limbaugh to win. Look, I'm not saying that, it's just that some people are saying it.

I know the voting system sucks, having to go back and vote everyday, but imagine how awesome it's gonna be to see Rush crying over his crushing loss to the Young Turks! I hope it doesn't push him over the edge into a binge of crispy creams and vicodins.

Is there any way to see what the current rankings are?

by LadyFriend on 11/16/2009 03:04:10 PM EST

No way to see the ratings, it sucks, but we gotta wait.

...I've never gotten an email confirmation back from them.  Now I'm worried.

by EveningStarNM on 11/16/2009 11:10:39 PM EST

Check your spam filter and settings ASAP. I use Gmail and I haven't had any issues.

Same here, I just voted yesterday when I got the email from TYT but I never received the confirmation back. I have check my spam folder, both locally and on the gmail web service.

It is twice now I haven't received the confirmation email.

Me, too, I have voted twice so far where I have not received a confirmation mail.  The rest of my votes I got an email almost immediately.  Remember you can only vote once in a 24 hour period.  My advice to you is to try again in 24 hours and see if you get the verification email.  It may be as simple as a mis-typed email address on our part.  The text is really small and light in my browser.

Your name, type your email address correctly (maybe autocomplete put in the wrong address?) and click that you are a 'Listener' per the instructions.

...at podcast@podcastconnect.com.  I got an email back from Todd Cochrane saying that the confirmation emails had been sent and they were being blocked somewhere after that.  He wants to blame my ISP.  But he said that he would validate my emails manually.

So now I'm trying a different email account with a different provider.  Same result.

Those folks don't have their act together.  The votes are not being counted accurately.

I haven't had any issues, but I'm using Gmail and Firefox.

I have a Gmail account that I can use.  But it still means that lots and lots of people have not had their votes counted.

I wrote a message back to them saying that I think they're routing their confirmation emails through a server that's either been blacklisted and is blocked by other servers' spam filters, or it's going through a server with an open port 25, which most other servers recognize as a spoofable server, and they block emails from it.

Whether or not they do anything about it -- like cancel the vote and start over in order to be fair and accurate -- is still up in the air.  But right now, all we know is that a lot of votes are not being counted.

But I've just been to spam hell, sorting through my spam filter (I get 300+ each day on two accounts), and there's nothing there.

Sheesh!  It's the first time I've looked at it in months.  I can't believe all the crap that's in there!  I'm never going in there again, even for TYT!  I think I'll do better by using a different email address and writing to the webmaster to find out what went wrong.
