Mike Huckabee and the End of Days; GOP Days
What has 10 legs and weighs 1500 pounds?
The Huckabee family of course.
Mike and the clan, pictured here in front of their 3000 sqft pantry, are getting lean and mean for 2012.
Mike has made it no secret he intends to run again. God told him to run and by golly that's what he's going to do.
Why is Mike so hot to run in 2012? First he doesn't want to be smoted (?) by a vengeful God.
Second Mike sees easy pickings going head to head with Sarah Palin and the Indian guy. Mitt Romney , no chance, even though a Brylcreem endorsement deal may help his campaign coffers.
Third, other than the standard conservative crack delusions Mike wants to change the Constitution:
"I have opponents in this race who do not want to change the Constitution. But I believe it's a lot easier to change the Constitution than it would be to change the word of the living god. And that's what we need to do -- to amend the Constitution so it's in God's standards rather than try to change God's standards so it lines up with some contemporary view. Mike Huckabee 2008"
Today the infallible Constitution is the document the birthers, miltias and the wing nut masses swear is under attack by Barak Obama. They are buying guns and ammo at record rate beacuse of a non existent threat to the Second Amendment. They are training in the woods , stocking up on rations and threatening armed revolution to protect "constitutional values". These folks are core conservative voters. GOP voters. The grass roots.
Now flash back to the primary campaign of 2008. At this juncture in time, the Constitution isn't good enough for the Christian GOP base, not godly enough. Hey, No problem! Let's change it! Needless to say the party hierarchy was astounded and horrified at Mikes revelation. The grass roots, not so much.
Hucakabee's gaffe and resulting tempest in a teapot may seem like old news but the idea that we need more God in government and a pure Christian and conservative ideology, is at the crux of the internal battle that is underway in the GOP. A battle between the GOP old school and populist conservatism represented by Hucakabee, Palin, Bachman, birthers, miltias and the wing nut masses
The revolution in NY District 23 , where the GOP faithful endorsed a third party candidate because the GOP nominee wasn't ideologically pure enough, was the first shot in a long battle within the party.
....if Republican activists decide that ideological purity must come first, that Maine’s Olympia Snowe must vote like Texas' Dick Armey and Tom DeLay, that Illinois’ Mark Kirk must sound like Minnesota’s Michelle Bachman; and that Connecticut’s Rob Simmons must be a clone of Alaska’s Palin then the GOP will have squandered an opportunity. Lloyd Green , Fox "News"
Sorry Llyod, they have already decided.
That decision will be bolstered by the fact that the Hoffman camp ( Conservative Party Candidate) is now claiming that he actually did win the election. Hoffman's defeat is a repeat of the Busby / Bilbray election of 2006, Hoffman prematurely conceded the race, like Busby, now the counts of absentee ballots and error check are closing the gap and may be swinging to Hoffman's side in the race.
Hoffaman's "win" will be seen as a "sign" that the independent and GOP voters are looking for ideological purity in their candidate. Moderates and pragmatists need not apply. If the old school GOP elites can';t reign in the extreme right, a third party is sure to follow.
But wait Fred, didn't Huck say no third party on his Fox show? Yes, and no:
Whether we like it or not, we have a two-party system. Instead of conservatives breaking from the GOP to start a third party they should fight it out in primaries. It helps sort out who we are," said Huckabee, who joked that as a conservative he didn't get the bulk of Republican votes during his 2008 primary challenge to Sen. John McCain. He also decried efforts by established Republican groups to endorse candidates during primaries, as the Senate Republican Senatorial Committee has done in Florida, backing Gov. Charlie Crist over Marco Rubio. "They should allow the process to play out," said Huckabee. "It shows the disconnect between many establishment Republicans and their grass roots."
Mike had religious group endorsements out the wazoo in 2008, now he decries "efforts by established Republican groups to endorse candidates during primaries"
You'll also notice he didn't exactly say which two parties. The primaries "sort out who we are". meaning in the end long as the GOP reflects his and the Christian rights values , he's fine with it.
Let the games begin.
