The Bible says Legalize Marijuana!

Since the Christian right likes to quote the Bible to pass laws against gay marriage, I'd like to do the same to legalize marijuana.

The Bible says in Genesis:

29 Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. 30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food." And it was so.

31 God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day. (Genesis 1:29-31)

The Bible states that God gave us every seed bearing plant for food. So according to the Bible, we must not smoke pot, but we should certainly be able to consume marijuana in the form of brownies. Any law which states that marijuana is illegal infringes on my constitutional right to religious freedom.

I'd like to know why more people are not quoting this to legalize marijuana or expose the hypocrisy of Christian right people.(Who, I am assuming are mostly against legalizing pot.) This is an offshoot from my other blog about gay rights and teen pregnancy. I encourage everyone to check that out as well!

as drug cults. many believe that the  "manna from heaven" which appears in the bible was actually a reference to Psilocybe (psychodelic) mushrooms. read below for more info.

You can not pick and choose what parts to read and not read. If you use the bible to prove or disprove something than the same must be given for the opposite.

Romans 13

1: Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.

2: Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.

If you take the quote you gave from the bible than yes I would agree with your statements but if you take a broader look into the bible than you can see that anything against your government i s a sin and the government on ly comes from the authority of god. Either way you have no religious leg to stand on through the constitution since it doesn't go against religious beliefs since god sanctioned this government a nd you can't use the bible itself since it contradicts it self.

I am not a religious person but I do believe if you use the bible to prove something than the bible can be used to disprove the same thing.

My point was that if we use the bible to ban gay marriage, so should we be able to do the same with legalizing marijuana. And if we must submit to the governing authority, it makes more sense to submit myself to the constitution of the US given to us by the founders. It is my constitutional right to religious freedom. There is no higher authority than the constitution. And since it is my constitutional right to religious freedom, my original argument holds.

That means you'll do, or not do, whatever any laws passed by the Democrats says, right? You won't be revolting like the other Republicans, if you are one?

How does that mean I am for all laws passed by the Democrats? I just said the constitution is the highest authority in the land. I am independent. I will either the democrats or the republicans based on the issue.

I am an atheist. I don't know what gave you the impression that I am a republican. I am a libertarian. I think the democrats are not as liberal and progressive as I would like.
