Your Chances of being the Target of Muslim Terrorism

After watching the debate between our good friend Cenk and a conservate against muslims (Joy Tiz) last week I thought it would be interesting to do a little fact cehcking. Watch the Youtube video here :  http://www.youtube.com/watc h?v=N6je4QqZedo

If you haven't seen it.

The most important thing that stood out to me in the debate was when Cenk listed off the Muslim extremist that had committed terrorism in the US since 9/11. Joy Tiz tried to state that 1% of the Muslim population in the US were extremists. Cenk quickly fired back that not only is that not correct but gave a list of what he considered the Muslim extremists since 9/11. This made me ponder the question, what are the odds of the average citizen being the target of Muslim Extremists Terrorism. So I ran the numbers. In 2001 there were over 12,000 murders in the US committed by Christians. In 2008 that number has risen to just under 13,000 murders. 82% of the prison population in 2008 registered as Christian. Really Joy should be more worried about her Christian next door neighbor then ever being the target of terrorism. The facts support the average US citizen has a 99.999999 % better chance of being killed by a US Citizen that is Christian then being killed by a Muslim.  If anyone should be profiled, scrutinized and prejudged it should be your neighbor from the local church, not the Muslim Americans.

to the 3000 people who died on 9/11/01.

In fact, tell their families, I'm sure it will make them feel better...

Bobo, Were you trying to state a family is more devastated because they were the victim of terrorism VS being the family of a victim of homicide?

Its true 3,000 families were destroyed on 9/11/01. Its also true 12,000 families were also destroyed that year because of the choices of Americans. Since then every year on average another 12-13,000 American families have been devastated by the choices "average everyday americans". The point is that to single out and racial profile someone because they are Muslim makes no sense. The actions of all these people are inexcusable, so why is it ok for some to be profiled while the group committing the highest percentage of crimes goes unnoticed?

What this boils down to is that Bobo just doesn't like Muslims or any other minorities.  He does not care how many people die in domestic homocides, because FOX doesn't implore him 50 times a week to be afraid of such a thing--they are too friendly with the NRA to plant a seed of regulating domestic handguns.  He does not care how many die from lack of health care, or from cancer due to a contaminated water supply, or from starvation/homelessness, or certainly not from collateral damage as a result of war.  (And we're just talking about good white Christian soldiers--he _really_ doesn't care about the brown people we accidentally kill in other countries as we are trying to take out a couple thousand bad guys.)

The only deaths that "matter" to him are those on 9/11 and from other Muslim acts of terrorism, totalling a few thousand in the US in the last 25 years vs. literally millions of these other often-preventable deaths.  But FOX doesn't care about those deaths--they care about pouring all of our money into defense contractors, so Conservatives come to believe that terrorism is 20 times the threat that climate change or our health system or pollution or general mental instability are.

And, as a perfectly ironic little "F*ck You" to logic and sanity, he claims he is pro-life.

Even the 9/11 victims' chances of being targeted by terrorism, rounded to the nearest thousanth of a percent, was zero. Those odds aren't enough for anyone to justify living their life in fear of theoretical violence. Like it or not, even a 9/11 victim's family member needs to understand that.

Not like a certain group of people? You call it discrimination, I call it having common sense... Muslims need to regulate themselves and show that they aren't a bunch of crazies. Christians too - they're all a bunch of fucks...

Did I say anything about discrimination, Bobo? Or was that reply intended for someone else? Someone imaginary? A man made of straw, perhaps?

Lookit this guy with his "research" and "facts."

On a different note, the number one cause of death is heart disease in America. There are really hundreds, maybe thousands of things that are way more likely to kill you than a terrorist attack, Muslim OR Christian.

But! The good government has decided that terrorism is so heinous that it deserved many, many, many times more funding than fighting disease, car crashes, or regular old murder. Or, you know, education, environmental protection and all that unimportant stuff that's not as Hollywood-sounding as "TERRORIST ATTACK."

This goes back to Cenk's rant about how talking about deficit military spending is so illogically taboo compared to other spending.

So it's obvious!  We profile anyone who has a heart!  It's great for dick cheney, he doesn't have to go through airport security.

You guys are all missing the big picture. There are some serious killers out there.

Take some examples:
Last I heard, one in 6000 people risk getting hit by lightning.
And then there's the meteors. While no documented meteor has killed anyone, the risk of the average person getting hit by a meteor is *higher* than the risk of being hit by lightning - Merely by the fact that a meteor would hit more people and we have almost no way of detecting them until they land.

And THEN there's dihydromonoxide. Do you have ANY idea how many people die from excess dihydromonoxide? If breathed in, it causes serious damage to the lungs and death. It's true. And organic foods are FULL of it! Every year, more people die from dihydromonoxide than from terrorism in America.

... And, of course, sharks. Did you know that more people die from eating sharks than from getting eaten by a shark? If you're scared of terrorism in America, you should be terrified of sushi!

Now, while everything I've stated is, as far as I know, true, I know this is a light-hearted way of dealing with a serious matter. Of course we have to pay respects to those who are killed by violence, but the primary way we can respect those killed by acts of violence is to be realistic about the issue. Pretending like terrorism or violence or extremism is a bigger problem than it actually is is spitting on the graves of the 9/11 victims. It is telling them they died so that we may lose ourselves in unfounded fears. And that is just paying tribute to their killers.

if we pass a law making it illegal for Allah Lovers to immigrate to America.

Last time I checked, we don't have a people shortage in this country.
