Is Creed a Christian Band?

Just wanted to chime in on the debate about Creed being a Christian rock band.

This is in response to the debate on whether Scott Stapp is a hypocrite for being a member of a Christian rock band and getting caught on a pornographic video with Kid Rock.

According to this Scott Stapp interview I found, Jayar's right. The members of Creed may identify themselves as being Christian, which may come through on some of the lyrics, but the band members have stated that they don't consider Creed to be an actual "Christian band." In other words, Creed doesn't actually have a "mission" to convert or preach, as most Christian bands do. Thus, Scott Stapp isn't really that much of a hypocrite.

Here is the interview I found online. Mind you, it's on a Christian website: http://www.nomoreministries .com/subpages/scottstapp.ht ml

is not a Christian rock band. Period.
Scott writes the songs, he is a believing christian, and a spiritual dude.

In no song he tries to communicate how to behave as a christian, when he cherishes becoming a father in "wide open" he doesn't say don't abort, for example.
They don't sing about jesus, not even in the first album (my own prison).

Scott was always open about his behaviour.
There is not one ounce of hypocrisy in this story. Leave it to Jayar to point that out.

One would think the most successful rock band of the 90's would be better understood, but Cenk says himself, that he has no idea about music, and Ana seems to be too young for even that. Guess that explains the -forgiveable- lack of knowledge on this issue.

If Ana's too young to know about Creed, I must really be old! I can still recite Motley Crue lyrics!

I think the sex tapes settles that question.

Nothing personal but of all the things happening in our crazy world is this the best we can do?

Don't they have a blog section in Tigerbeat...something?

You and I agree on something! Get this shit off a political forum! Creed is a Pearl Jam wannabe band, anyway...

You dare mention Pearl Jam and Creed in the same sentance!?!

Staph or Staap or whatever his name is may belive in what he does but overwrought teen angst and pop spirituality is pure pandering...for bucks..pure and simple.

Makes you want to light your Bic and scream "Free Bird!"

A college buddy of mine used to say, "Stapp sounds like Vedder because of his huhr. But singers have a distinct huhr to their voice."

Scott Stapp is an Eddie Vedder wannabe. Period. He's also a fucking loser...

Does the Pope schitt in the woods?

It's all pure marketing... just like all religions.

Jayar hit the nail on the head yet again with this one.

The most annoying Christians are ones who tell you how to live your life, but we have no evidence that he was that sort of Christian. Technically a true Christian should think of themselves as worthless and should be the last to judge anyone else(if they read the bible). Unfortunately most of the time we see the opposite where Christians tend to put themselves above others and preach as if they are better. But until you know what type of Christian he was you can't start calling him a hypocrite.

"The Christian community
latched onto a lot of my music, because there were a lot of things about my struggle they related to. But I didn't really want to come out and be identified as a Christian, because I didn't want to be a hypocrite, because my life wasn't right." - Scott Stapp (lead singer of creed)

Still...that doesn't change the fact that the guy is a douche (Anna hit the nail on the head with that one)

They where a Christian band. The lyrics of the songs gave it away lol

...I can't find any songs that don't have some reference from the Christian Bible, or some more modern Christian or other religious reference in them.

Whether Creed wants to be known as a Christian band or not (and I understand that they don't), they are one.  Now, I admit that I've only listened to and read the lyrics from three of their CDs, so I can't say that my research was complete, and it's been a few months since that bored afternoon when I conducted that "study".  Things might have changed since then. But the answer to your question is:

YES!  Creed is a Christian band, whether they want to be known that way or not.

by EveningStarNM on 11/25/2009 06:05:20 PM EST

Some of their members arregularily going to church. Is that the same for Slayer as it is for that Creed guy to appear in a porn video.

Fucking hypocrites!
