Is this the perfect storm and are you done playin?

I want to start by saying a few things: I've never written a blog,I drive a truck, and barely finished high school.
And Cenk I luv you but.

The reason we all come to progressive sites is to exchange ideas and organize so we can make a real impact.

Here is what I did today. I pulled my measley $35 a month donation to the democratic party and started giving it to Act Blue,so I ask you, are they progressive enough? because I'm done getting played. If everyone did this would the party pay attention?

Better than that, Is this the perfect storm. While republicans tear their party apart, is it time we tear the corporate democratic two party system wide open!  As progressives are we strong enough to say enough is enough and stop getting spit in the eye.  Can we join guys like Bernie Sanders and start a real progressive party, a real Tea Party and a real IDEPENDENT PARTY-minus Lie berman of course

Isnt it obvious to us all government has been captured and is completely broken and doesnt work. I didnt vote for Joe Lieberman and I damn well won't watch 4 years of the Obama/Lieberman show.

When I ask are we as progressives strong enough,I mean can we recruit Act Blue,Howard Dean,Kieth Olberman,Stewart,Maddow,Wei ner,Franken (add names here)all progressives to break from the Captured Democratic Party and turn this country around like we (hoped/thought) we were doing when we voted for Barack Obama. This is a perfect storm, I only worry without Campaign finance reform they will crush us with corporate money, but we are screwed anyway so why worry about things you cant change.

Tom Hartman always says we need a revolution.....Cenk what do you say?

We come here to get our orders,do you want to lead?,do you have the connections to start a revolution? or should we all as progressives just stay tuned in to progressives whining about how we all just got played again?

I'm sure I'm not the first to have these thoughts and my eyes are on the road and not reading blogs,my ears are on progressive radio, So stop whining and throw some fukin  ideas out there my man, should we move our money or what???????  What s our first move?

Great post... and you make a good point...

This truly is the perfect time to do something... for years the progressive majority of the country have been to desillusioned and catatonic to drum up any realy opposition to corporate power... but that all changed with Obama...

On top of that even though Obama has shown himself to be just another corporate shell true progressive politicians have reared their heads in the house and senate following the success of Obama...

And the time is now to act if something has to be done while the progressive majority is still awake... if no change comes by 2012 the progressive majority will go back to sleep and nothing will happen...

I have outlined here what I believe could be done if progressives were really serious about change the people can believe in...

So all that's left is for someone (it could be Cenk or it could be any progressive willing to fight for true change) to act now and get the ball rolling to take back the country for the people...

(copy paste of my surgested course of action descibed in my link above)...

Not a bad idea to start a progressive party… and Cenk could easily be the instigator… but he doesn’t have to be…
If you’re really serious about this here’s what you (or Cenk if he wants to) do…

1. You start off by making a list of the truly progressive politicians that are still left in the senate and on the house side…

2. You make a website on which you write your mission statement (your course of action (see below points) incl. the list of politicians in 1… and encourage everyone who is interested in true progressive change to follow your example and do the same thing as you do (see below points) and join the membership of your site…

3. You write a post calling for action on every progressive political site you can think off… and link to your website…

4. You contact every progressive radio and TV talk show host you can think of and get confirmation from them to drum up awareness… and link to your website…

5. You contact every progressive organization you can think of and get confirmation that they would be willing to help with donation and drum up support for a truly progressive agenda…

6. You go out into the street and ask people to sign a petition to start a truly progressive party and confirm that they would be willing to donate at least $100,- should such a party be a reality…

7. And when you have all your ducks in a row (see above) then you write an email (and ask all your friends and family to do the same) to all the truly progressive politicians on your list (see above) saying this…

Email:
To: ???
From: ???
Attachment: (the scanned document of all the signatures you collected in 6.)

Mr. (the politician you are writing to)

My name is (your name) and I’m one of the millions who voted for President Obama when I still believed he was a truly progressive candidate… he has since showed himself to be no such thing but instead you have risen to the challenge and showed you would be one I could get behind…

If you (and anyone in politics whom you could get to join you in a progressive party) would ever be interested in capitalizing on the huge support, manpower, campaign donations, votes, etc. that were afforded to President Obama during the 2008 election and break free from an increasingly ineffective Democratic Party and start a new Progressive Party you would have my full support and the full support of all the signatures in the attachment…

You’ll also have guaranteed donation of at least $100,- from each of the signatures on top of donations and political support from (list of progressive organizations you gathered in 5. and list of talk show hosts gathered in 4.)…

Hope you will seriously consider being a part of true change we can believe in and get true representation of the people in the house and the senate…

Yours Sincerely
(your name)
(your address)
(your phone number)
(your email)
:end email

You don’t think there is national support for a true progressive agenda?
Just look at the support Obama got when he ran in 2008 on that agenda… and organizations like moveon.org etc… there is HUGE support…

So let’s say that between you and your friends and family and the members on your new website and the progressive members of every progressive political site you have written on and every progressive who hears about it through the progressive organizations whose support you have enlisted and the progressive talk show hosts etc. you get 50,000 (you don’t think that there is 50.000 among the millions who voted for Obama who would support a new Progressive Party?) to do what you have done (3 – 7)… you don’t think that after the progressive politicians get 50,000 emails of support to start a Progressive Party each with 10 or more signatures (you don’t think you and the rest of the 50,000 supporters can get 10 people to sign your petition and would be willing to donate $100,- in your neighborhood?) they would not seriously consider doing it?

It’s a guaranteed donation of 50,000 x 10 x $100,- = $50,000,000.- for starters (not counting the donations of the progressive organizations)…
It’s a guaranteed pool of 50,000 to get volunteers from for his/her political campaign…
It’s a guaranteed free national publicity from all the progressive talk show hosts (and probably the networks too since this would be a major political story)…
And with the promise of all the votes Obama got when he ran it would be a landslide to the presidency :-D

So yes I think they might go for it…

And to anyone who read this post (and Cenk)… think about it and if interested in true change you can believe in… do something about it (if I were an American citizen I would have done this a LONG time ago) :-D

In order for politicians to make such a dramatic move they need a comfy place to go.......with lots of money.  Even if Act Blue promised to support only progressives, democrats and Independents, we need a place to send the wonderful cake. I dont know enough about act blue to know if they arent just another Corporate schill.

Well that's where the email comes in... if you have done all the legwork beforehand and then people start sending them thousands opon thousands of emails with signatures pledging support and campaign contributions you don't think that they will recognize 50,000+ people and a campaign fund of $50,000,000.- or more and the support of several progressive organizations and the free media coverage of all the progressive media outlets as a comfy place to move to?

Maybe I'm just naive but I think they'll bite after the emails start pouring in...

But that's just my opinion :-D

They have supported a lot of good Democratic candidates.  Personally, I'm looking for a replacement for my new congressman, Harry Teague, in whom I am very disappointed.  I'm looking for a truly progressive candidate to boot Teague out (and I might have found one).  I'll even give him money to try.  So I'm focused on my local races.

But since you're a truck driver, you're probably on the road a lot, and taking local action would be much more difficult for you.  I think Act Blue is a good and useful cause.

What's more, you posted this article.

Thank you!

It's a worhty objective to elect more progressives, but we need action now. There are enough progressives in the congress to hold up coporate legislation. By the way, Obama thinks that by INCREASING corporate power and giving them more money, he will acheive his objectives. He should take a lesson from what happened last Monday when the heads of the banks told him shove it and didn't show up for his party.
Any legislaton coming down the pipeline promises already looks to be a gift to corporate America.
