pirate solutions?

so some pirates got killed and now 4 more ships taken in 4 days,

well i think its time the shiping companyes got involved in a realistic way.

there are a lot of things they can do, armed security on ships in the area is one, and convoy's of shipping with gun boat protection is another, we did it succesfully in ww2, so i think its time to run it past the enemy again.

taking an alternate route when your of the coast of africa could help, but convoy's in the gulf area would be a good idea.

i allso think we have to try and deal with the causes of this problem, ban dumping in the area, stop forieng factory fishing in the area by european, chinease and russian trawlers,  this could take some negotiations, but its a better way ahead than just sending gun boats and paying ransoms, any way thats my 2 cents worth.

don't we pay loads and loads of money to have satelites spying on our own citizens?? here's a novel idea...why not aim the satellites at the area of pirate interception...the horn of africa area and maybe even the mallacas whilst at it.

perhaps the cargo ships could benefit from a heads-up, perhaps not. in the meantime couldn't the railing be electrified or something? get those taser guys working on something like that? maybe armour the wheel-house like a 'panic room' for the crew...protect them until help arrives.

last but not least don't most first world countries have navy's?? what about patrolling the coast of somalia then shadowing the pirates' motherships?? blow the little bastards out of the water when they launch their terrorists. don't we still have the bush-doctrine??

some libs are getting these criminals confused with robin hood. they are not a band of merrymen sharing their spoils equally with the poorest of the poor. two of the american ships attacked (maersk alabama, liberty sun) were actually taking food relief to mombasa. these men are desperados (age ceases to matter once a gun is picked up with hostile intent)

the above mentioned are just stop-gap measures until the UN can figure out what to do about somalia. the rest of the world has ignored this nati on's plight long enough.

"are getting these criminals confused with robin hood."

Really? I find that highly doubtful but then again I suppose you can find someone to espouse almost anything somewhere on the internet.

Pirates are criminals. No room for debate.

Is millions of square kilometers of water.  It would be nearly impossible to monitor, let alone cost billions.  The best solution is most likely a combination of things.  First you have to stop dumping toxins in Somolia's water.  Next you have to try to help stablize Somolia.  The best thing to do is to provide jobs so that pirating becomes less apealling.  Next you have to take out the pirate towns as long as they have a safe haven they will continue to do this.  Finally you can not have anyone pay ransoms as long as there is a reward in it they will continue to do it.  The most important part of this Carrot and Stick strategy is the Carrot.  What will not work is only using military strength to try to solve the problem.  This strategy should prevent future generations from resorting to piracy and should slow the ammount of piracy in the Indian Ocean.  Alternitivly you could pay ransoms forever, the downside to the first stategy is while you will fix the problem you will cause many deaths and the question is, is paying 150 million a year and having no one die better than solving the problem but having many people die in the process.

Hmm. Those clever Frenchies seem to have it worked out. Time will tell.

man i tryed to explain a 2 part solution and all i get is mostly kill kill kill, these ppl are criminal but they wernt allways like that we need to give them back thier fishing rights and normal way life as well as protecting shiping till pirating stopes, and yes no payments for pirates, but hell yes sort out the problems they have in their own water, they cant do it we have to.
