Most kids today spend the great majority of their time either watching TV, attending school, or doing homework. Cenq asks why people so readily surrender their judgement? I think we're trained to from a young age to do so. The rant covers advertising well, but overlooks school. At mainstream schools we are taught day in and day out that there's a right answer and a wrong answer, and you should look to authories to tell you the right one. Rarely are we taught to figure it out for ourselves and question authorities. Little wonder people are so willing to just nod their heads and trust government.

Christianity, including its most extreme denominations, has shaped our culture in ultimately harmful ways.  The rewards/punishment system permeates nearly everything we do, encouraging us to remain as children psychologically.  (These are the rules, don't piss off god, you'll be rewarded later.)  Organized religion in modern society has failed to create spiritual beings - the only "objective" it was ever supposed to have.

*swoon*  I had to share this with just about everyone I knew ;)  And what happened to 'Wednesdays with Wes'?  I know, I know...he's a very busy lad, but I'd still love to see more of him.

Respectfully,

GD Kitty from Canaduh (where we are everybit as 'asleep' as the Yanks)

Who else but Wes could mix trenchant social analysis (c.f. allusions to Huxley and Lippmann) with entreaties for various wingnuts to 'suck my c**k'?  Nobody.
