Obama allows same-sex partner benefits for ALL fed employees

Obama's been taking flack lately for distancing from repealing "don't ask, don't tell" and the "anti-gay" wording of the latest Obama administration memorandum concerning the defense of marriage act.... esp. considering Obama pledged during his campaign to support gay and lesbian rights.

Well...this afternoon Obama is finally sticking by his pledge.

This afternoon Barack Obama will sign a presidential memo that will allow domestic partners of civil service employees to be added to the long-term care insurance program and allow employees to use sick leave to take care of domestic partners and adopted children, according to an administration statement.

Domestic partners of foreign service employees will be allowed to use medical facilities at posts abroad and will be included in family size for housing allocation, the statement said.

And it's nice to know that they know when they've made a significant blunder, as they did the other day when comparing same-sex marriage to pedophilia.

But what part of "equal protection" is it that they don't understand?

The language in the Defense of Marriage act legal brief was insane.

He could spend 2 minutes to sign a piece of paper to end dont ask dont tell

The military is desperate, accepting people with police records etc.

And allowing them to boot out gays with impeccable records because they are gay?  Its B/S

...presidency thus far from a massively disappointing C- to...a minimally higher C-, and even if he included every benefit to these couples, we are talking about yet a slightly higher C- or very low C.  How many days of good news for the country has he been responsible for in the last 75?  Five or six?  Fire your team of advisors, sir.

That is a joke, right? It's ok to be gay abroad? And how many civil servants will this bill benefit? I don't think there are many openly gay employees there... at least not for long after their coming out. Why isn't there don't-ask-don't-tell...

What about the vast majority of gays who are not civil servants? I'm not a lawyer but it also does not sound enforceable.
