Mark Sanford: republican, adulterer, poet?

Someone leaked some of Mark Sanford's e-mail love letters to his Argentinian girlfriend, and I've got to admit, the man is incredibly eloquent.  But still a douchebag.

There are only 2 of Sanford's emails leaked so far, plus 1 from "Maria."

I went to read them expecting lots of nasty loofah talk a la O'Reilly, but it turns out Mark Sanford is both seriously in love and an excellent writer.  I've had a long-distance girlfriend before and let me tell you, Sanford's love letters put mine to shame and then some.

After all, why write "goodbye" when you can write:

"...please sleep soundly knowing that despite the best efforts of my head my heart cries out for you, your voice, your body, the touch of your lips, the touch of your finger tips and an even deeper connection to your soul."

He may be a creepy philandering hypocrite, but he's also a hell of a romantic guy.  Here's another passage where he talks about working on his farm in the early morning:

"To me, and I suspect no one else on earth, there is something wonderful about listening to country music playing in the cab, air conditioner running, the hum of a huge diesel engine in the back ground, the tranquillity that comes with being in a virtual wilderness of trees and marsh, the day breaking and vibrant pink coming alive in the morning clouds - and getting to build something with each scoop of dirt."

Wow.  I might actually buy his book when it inevitably comes out.  I wonder if he ever wrote his wife letters like that.  Ah, to be a fly on the wall during that divorce...

I dont find anything wonderful in listening to country music while I drive my tractor around.

So I actually have to agree with him when he says  I suspect no one else on earth.
