The problem with our Goverment and what we need.

Thanks for reading and feel free to comment. This is my first post on TYT and it won’t be the last.

The death of 3000 Americans are not enough to justify the loss of all the other individuals that died in our current wars and the rights we lost in the Bush administration as well as the loss of civil rights that we continue to lose under the Obama administration. Warrantless wiretapping is still in effect and strengthened by the Obama administration as well as the introduction of new copy right laws that allow the government to search your computer to find illegal material. The new treaty that Obama is signing is “Classified for national security”. Obama’s indefinite detention based on the premise of pre-crime etc… the list goes on.

I thought we were voting for change. There is no change both parties are the same. We either vote for the religious loons or the party that is supposed to be for us but fucks us the second we turn around. So here is what we need. We need a truly progressive party. The democrats are not it. Democracy is for the people and by the people. Confidentiality and violation of civil rights and liberties further promote unjust actions against the people in which the government was put in place to protect and help.

I DO have issues, though.

It wasn't 3000 Americans. The number was below that and it was an international tragedy as there were many people from different countries who died that day. Mostly Americans, but let us not diminish the loss of others.

"the introduction of new copy right laws that allow the government to search your computer to find illegal material. The new treaty that Obama is signing is “Classified for national security”. "

Interesting. Could you go into a little more detail on which new copyright laws these are and how they are being introduced? Executive order or Congress?

And, what treaty? With who? Regarding what? He cannot just sign treaties - they have to be ratified by Congress. Please give me more info, I haven't heard anything about this.

I'm not asking for a dissertation, just a few links...

I do remember it from a year or so ago, didn't realize that Obama was keeping it going. I thought it had died from neglect. Thanks for the links.

You're 100% right, 0% wrong. This sucks horribly and the fact that Obama's administration is going along with it is reprehensible and yet another betrayal of the people who supported and voted for him.

Talk Cenk into starting a third party. He's already got a couple of thousand votes.

The problem with copyright laws that let the government search your computer or internet use is that there's a fundamental schizm between privacy and enforcing the law. As things are, many people in the western world become highly uncomfortable at the thought of anyone being able to figure out what books you buy, what porn sites your frequent, and how many slightly-too-personal emails you send.
Then there's the issue of government espionage on political or financial competitors. That's a bigger problem, I suppose.
On the other hand, it does happen to be illegal to download pirated stuff. Question is... If we want to retain our right to privacy, what do we expect the government to do about it?

Personally, I would be in favour of legalizing personal use of now-illegally downloaded information (given no other legal limits). The state doesn't have to deal with it, then, and the record companies, movie producers, and game developers can just impose more security measures.

Remember Nader?  Every vote for Nader was a vote away from Gore, and he cost Gore the election.

The problem with a third party in a voting system with ours is just that.  Every vote for the third party is a vote away from the 2nd best party(even though the dems are weak and some corporatist, they still are better than the republicans.)

So If we wanted to have a third party, we would have to switch voting systems, which isn't happening anytime soon.

this cartoon explains what I think would be a better voting system.
