DELL "lollipop" commercial raises eye brows of gay undertones?

So I'm sure everyone has seen this commercial and I've been seeing responses on the internet of gay undertones that are being displayed in this :30 second commercial.

One individual (anti-gay) made the claim that it was subliminal advertising that's turning our children in America gay.

Some conservative commentators on youtube have stated it's more liberal advertising of an "abomination" that is immoral under the eyes of God.

you tell me...  if you don't see it I will tell you where...

To be honest, I didn't notice it until someone pointed it out.

The whole ad is pretty gay. especially the guy popping up in the beginning putting his overalls back on.  Its fun its funny. Its kinda old news I dunno how many times I have seen that damn add mentioned on twitter .

if you get an explanation how an ad on tv turns kids gay    let me know.

Last time I checked all gays came from straight parents or mostly . I guess that means straights should not be allowed to marry.

I'm glad you heard about this too.  I don't get it, I just thought they were advertising computers, like I said, I didn't notice until someone pointed it out to me with the overalls... that's how much I notice "homo-eroticism"

But people who point this out, who are anti-gay are idiots.  I hope their kids do turn out gay.

Dell has several outright gay ads aimed at gays  in magazines and on LOGO  ( the gay tv network)

I guess there will be a boycott from conservative bigots in their future.

(Banging Cenk's gavel sound effect).  It's over.  There are no untoward messages in this ad.  I have no idea why the man is putting his overalls back on, but there isn't even the tiniest hint of anything illicit in the look he gives the, er, foreman.  I watched this commercial at least a dozen times before this thread was pointed out to me, and I just presumed that they were all "getting ready for work," and somehow this one fellow had not yet fastened his overalls into place properly.  It didn't signal the slightest of red flags to me, and I am usually very much aware of subtlely in ads.  (I won't say subliminality in ads, or whatever the word is, because that used to imply that the image was actually not even consciously visible to the eye, like a single frame of Coca-Cola in the middle of an otherwise unbroken shot of a woman at the beach.)  I'm sure perverted Conservative watchdogs (i.e., almost all of them) will look at an extremely colorful ad, full of bright pink and other colors, see men singing about a "lollipop" as squirts of candy-esque liquid are sprayed out of tubes, and think that this is some dastardly gay agenda heresy by Dell.  The truth is that this is about the 500th most suggestive ad on TV, assuming it is even trying to be suggestive at all.

  Let 'em go!!!!!!!

Well first of all there is NO reason why a person can not watch a single TV show without having to see and hear this add 15 times throughout the course of a 45 minute tv show!! I mean it is one thing to add your product, it is completely different to try to pound it into someone’s head with a stupid song. I mean for an example when you have a favorite band come out with a new CD, You purchase the cd and you listen to your favorite song a few times. But after an amount of times you have heard the same song you put it aside and stop listening to it.

But with this add I can not watch a single TV program without having to listen to Lollipop 50 frikken times!!! I mean if people do not want to hear there favorite song over and over who in gods green earth is going to want to listen to this stupid gay song 50 times a day?

What really bothers me the most about this add is that I pay for cable or Direct Tv. So I and millions of other people are PAYING to listen to this crap over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.

Now I recall back when Tevo first came out and people would fast forward through annoying tv adds. You know they tried to put it into law so they could put you in prison for doing that? So there are jerks out there who actually think that it is ok to force people who paid for cable TV to sit through these BS adds..

That is very stupid beings NOBODY pays to watch adds. We ALL pay to see our favorite tv shows not annoying adds.

I my self have always wanted to come out with a new Cable or satellite service that is add FREE!!! ABSOLUTELY ADD FREE!! How many people would pay for direct Tv or cable tv if they could pay LESS for the SAME tv but ADD FREE???

I believe if someone where to come up with such a network it would take business from every other provider!!! How Gay would that be?

And as for the Gay undertones? Who in there right mind could see a man stand up from BJ position and button his overalls and not see a gay red flag?? I mean I am pretty shocked that Milltycoon could think this guy is just standing up from primary BJ position to simply get ready for work..

I don’t know about all you but when I get ready for work I do that at Home.. So My guess is the guy is buttoning up his cover alls for some discussing reason..

Now on the other hand I am kind of joking, poking fun but on a serious note.. Ok I have been into TV production for a few years now. I edit footage, I have been on a Nationally syndicated tv show filming crew and I know when writing your script or planning your add every single move is very carefully planned.

And as far as TV adds go. Your Primary objective is subliminal messaging and Ill tell you why.. Now when writing an add you have a room full of professional mind manipulators psychologists with the objective to find a way to get people to remember the add and purchase this particular product!! Not to make peoples children gay. However believe me every tiny little move you see in an add is planned to the Tee and it is intentional. Now some adds are focused around humor. In my opinion the most thoughtful brilliant adds are focused on humor rather than manipulation. These are the caveman adds we never get tired of seeing. The free credit report dot com band. that is funny, not really focused on manipulating the masses rather just to provide some humor which seems to work better than these pound this song into your head BS adds..

I have studied psychology and in depth black science which is mind masters and mind manipulation specifically TV adds and hypnotics. In my professional opinion the man standing up buttoning his coveralls is intentional. I am not very sure what it is trying to suggest but it does not suggest to me that he is getting ready for work. If it did it would be all of them putting on hard hats and cover alls. Not just one man standing up from a kneeling pose buttoning one button on his cover alls.

So perhaps this add does have some gay undertones.. I mean here are a bunch of men who all look gay.. In my opinion and I only lived in Palm Springs California, I use to do construction in Gay resorts. I would very often be the only strait man in an all gay resort working on an all gay crew. So IN my again professional opinion every one of them look gay. However that comment I am kind of making fun and not completely serious.. But really they do look gay ;) But then I have seen a lot of gay men who did NOT look gay.. So just because something looks gay does not mean they are gay.. What is it to look gay? Ide say about half of gay people do not look any particular way anyway..

But again the men in this add look gay.. But I guess the main focus of the question is did dell try to put gay undertones into this add? I do not know.. But I will say Dell did use this song to Drive a hypnotic suggestion into the heads of millions of viewers. Along with this annoying song was that they used millions of dollars to be sure this add is played over and over and over and over and over till every living person rushes out and purchases a dell computer in hopes they will never have to see this annoying add ever again!!!

But seriously!! I do NOT agree with the man above that they are simply getting ready for work.. If that was the case why is only one man buttoning his overall and the rest already at work? Is this indicating this one man was late for work or giving the other man a BJ?? In my opinion it more so indicates he was down on his knees doing the nasty deed...

I think the add is gay as heck!! But I do NOT believe it has a thing to do with making people gay.. Perhaps it has more to do with a room full of manipulating add campaigns who believe that these colorful laptops will be more attractive to gay men so this is why the add has gay undertones..

One thing you can take to the bank is Dell's primary objective is not to make children gay, Unless of course gay children purchase notebook computers.. Rather the main focus of Dell is to sell computers.. Now if Gay people purchase more notebook computers well than this would certainly explain the gay undertones in the add wouldn’t it?

Now in my opinion all joking and fun aside.. The reason for the gay undertones is that Gay people would be more attracted to these colorful notebook computers therefore project an annoying add that is more appealing to Gay people.. That is what I believe and I do believe that this add does in fact project gay undertones.. If you do not believe so than you are probly gay or just very ignorant..

I have a very hard time believing that any strait man would purchase a hot pink computer. Or any of these colors.. If you know Gay people and have every lived in Palm Springs than you could see the gay undertones in this add. Again I am not in any way suggesting that Gay men are all interested in Hot pink as I had seen many gay men who I did not think “Looked” Gay. But we are not talking a gay psychologist designing this tv add. In most cases it is a psychologist who is expressing what he believes a gay person desires or what statistics suggests as far as what kind of individual would purchase this computer.

You can pretty much bet your life this tv add is focused upon who Dell believes would purchase this very kind of computer. So what they will do with a room full of admin is think who would purchase this kind of computer and completely design the tv add around that idea. So you can bet your life this tv add is focused upon who will like this add and who would purchase this notebook. I my self HATE this add and I my self would NEVER purchase those notebooks. So you can bet this add is focused upon who DELL THINKS would like the add and who would purchase the laptop..

That being said I do believe this add is focused upon Gay people.. I do know plenty of gay men who would find this add funny and entertaining just as they would also find the computer attractive.. So back to the primary question, “Does this add have any gay undertones?” ABSOLUTELY!!! No question about it!! Is the purpose to turn strait children gay? Hell NO!! The purpose is obviously to sell computers to those who dell believes are most likely to purchase this particular computers!!

Now consider this.. Anyone ever seen the movie “Milk” About Harvey Milk? If you had seen this movie or know anything of politics than you know the “Gay” vote is extremely powerful!! Well dell sales team also knows that not only is the gay vote very powerful but so is the gay consumer!! Thus if we can make a product specifically designed to appeal to this “Gay consumer” Than we can also make an add focused upon the gay consumer and sell to that “Gay population” This is exactly why people see gay undertones in this add. So the long answer is YES absolutely this add has gay undertones so does this product!! If you disagree than please show me a strait man who purchased this neon computer ;) Till then I believe this add is not just annoying but Gay as hell!! ;)

Well, after watching it a couple times (I don't have a TV, so this was my first time seeing the ad) I have to say that while I didn't get a "gay" vibe from it, I did get a "weird" vibe from it almost immediately. The second or third times around it didn't bother me, but the first time I saw it I felt like something was going on in the commercial that I was only vaguely aware of, but couldn't quite put into words.

And, if I were a paranoid social Conservative, I can see how that initial "weird" vibe could get turned into a "This must be gay" fear when coupled with bright rainbow colors and men dressed up like the Construction Worker from the Village People who happen to be singing a happy cheerful songful like "Lollipop" by the Chordettes.

I don't think this ad is necessarily gay, but I think it does create a Rorschach Test situation for people.

Yup, that's most likely what the choreographer had in mind. There are a number of stereotypical things that must occur in certain media representations of life. E.G. any bar scene must include a bartender wiping out a glass. Seedy hotel rooms always have a view out the window of the malfunctioning neon sign. Etc...

I think the rainbow colors and the song are making the point that Dells come in all those colors.

However, there was something kind of subliminally YMCA-ish about it. The construction worker plus the guy coming down the pole (fireman)... Plus that fact that guys are harmonizing and singing acapela.  However, the whole blow job thing is a bit over the top. When it starts off the lights are coming on,  and the guys are getting dressed for work. The one is putting on his hat, the other is buttoning his overalls.  If it were really a blow job, wouldn't the OTHER guy be buttoning his overalls? Plus, the other two "arrive at work" on their "chute" and "fireman's pole".

However, so what if there are gay undertones? Good for Dell.  It's about time recognized the buying power of the educated and affluent gay community, the majority of which have high paying jobs and dual incomes.  And it's about time that these same corporations who make tons of money from their gay and lesbian consumers finally advertise for them in mainstream channels versus in GLBT magazines where it's "safe".

I would agree its vague enough to leave some doubt but then again, if you're gay you're going to pick up on the "wink wink" aspect of it.

So, good for Dell! More of a reason to buy my next computer from them.
