Name one thing Bush did good.

I disliked Bush, but I thought this would be funny. Name one thing you think Bush did that was good, I will also except something that's not necessarily good but is not bad also.

I look forward to seeing what you say.

He didn't declare martial law, as he had threatened to do, after we handed him the keys to the treasury, no questions asked.

For all his fuck-uppery, he did handle North Korea with uncharacteristic skill. Then again, it's become clear that North Korea smiled and participated in Six-Party Talks while developing weapons in secret, so maybe Bush didn't do such a hot job with them after all.

the one thing bush did, i daresay, GREAT is make me laugh.

"fool me once"

...do some honestly good work with AIDS relief in Africa?  I know it hasn't been perfect, since "abstinence" programs have problematic consequences, but many on the Left have pointed to this as a lone bright light.

by Milltycoon on 07/02/2009 04:51:54 PM EST

while Bush's approval rating in the US was at 20% his approval rating in Africa was at 80%.  Africans LOVED Bush for what he did for their country... it's funny he did better things for another country rather than his own.  How does that make sense?

Africans LOVED Bush for what he did for their country.
ERAU, we know you are sarah palin.  Please come out with your hands up, and PLEASE don't say "You Betcha."  That is just SOO annoying.

I'm just relating ERAU calling africa a country to sarah palin.  That's probably my fault for not making the joke clear enough

I'd considered mentioning that, but ERAU just went into the service, so I decided to give him a break.  But the first time he gets a weekend pass, we pounce!

Bush took the first steps in moving the US toward socialism. It's like Nixon going to China. We needed a Republican to start the inevitable push toward where the US should go economically.

Not stomp on the Constitution one more time and allow himself another term (without needing a vote).

1) The old joke is:  "Americans learn geography by invading countries," and it's true.  Before Bush, no candidate would be asked if they know the difference between Shia and Sunni.  After Bush, many Americans seem to expect their high-level candidates to know something about the rest of the world.  Palin was roundly criticized for her ignorance, but Bush showed far less foreign policy knowledge in 2000 and took little heat for it.  In general, Bush has forced Americans to care about their leaders, or else the country will go to shit again.

2) Before Bush, it was strongly believed by many that states should set their own education standards.  Because No Child Left Behind tied federal funding to performance, the Department of Education of the future will have a greater capacity to set standards.  This, along with aid to Africa (which was mixed, but more good than bad) and beginning the road to socialism (with a horribly structured bailout).  As mentioned above, Bush gives any future president a lot of cover to try even larger government programs to improve the country.

So, in essence, Bush has become a cautionary tale for us all when choosing our leaders, and leaves the Republican party open to charges of massive hypocrisy for opposing liberal solutions to real problems.  The second good thing is of limited value as most of the GOP has completely disowned Bush (and even their own actions and votes during the Bush years).

Taking your rights and freedoms,

Filling the pockets of Corporate CEO's (his buddies),

Making sure Everyone on Earth hates Americans (at least during Bush's presidency),

Ensuring that the likelihood of enduring another terrorist attack is guaranteed,

Giving the Liberal Media and the rest of the world a great laugh, practically any time the idiot spoke,

Made sure that the US is at war with practically the entire planet,

Made sure the global economically is totally fucked,

and finally,

Created a global political climate that will take the next 50 years to correct.

OH ... I'm sorry .. I guess that isn't what you meant when you asked for one thing that Bush did that was good !!!  Hmmm .. that's a tricky one. I was thinking he did a pretty good job of all those things.

by SnowTiger on 07/03/2009 07:53:00 PM EST

He dodged that shoe!

Seriously, that's the only thing I can compliment him for.

by birdboy1 on 07/05/2009 10:44:38 PM EST

He did a good job of invading and pacifying Afghanistan, up until he pulled the troops out and sent them to Iraq.
