Palin Just Resigned

Sarah Palin is stepping down from the governorship in 1 month...

 Anyone know why?

from the video that something bad is about to come up.

She annoys me and I think she is an idiot but I can also see that she is normally rather good as speeches. Sure they normally are rather stupid but she repeats them very well.

This one is different. I see one of two things happening. She is faking it to try and make people feel sorry for her(unlikely) or it is about to hit the fan and she is doing the smart thing and running for cover before it comes out.

Maybe I am wrong on the reasons but after only a few seconds of that video I could see something was very different.

by mattish on 07/04/2009 02:03:26 AM EST

No, I think that the reason the speech is rambling and incoherent is that she probably wrote it herself, unlike most of her other speeches.

But I do wonder if there isn't something more juicy behind the decision to quit.

Ensign, Sanford, Palin?

Whats the bad girl been up to lately, or should we ask whos she been up to?

I can't wait for the other shoe to drop on this one, bet it's gonna be a doozie.

by rolodex on 07/03/2009 03:56:49 PM EST

there's mention of an "iceberg" so googling around it seems that's a reference to new ethics complaints and a possible IRS scandal, but its hard to believe that would be enough to make Palin bow out of public life. That's just money. There's a big fat WTF hanging over this one.

He's saying to himself - Wasikta! Of all the days to do the show early.

Man, talking about a 'bury the lead Friday' kind of story, this has got to be ugly.

Alaska's economy is tanking...revenues from oil dropping..ethics probes...fights within the party.

When the goin gets tough the tough get out. I suspect when she runs in 2012 she can claim how wonderful thing were in Palin land. She'll regret she couldn't stay and keep Alaska on the steady conservative course she set blah bal blah.

Using a basketball analogy, Palin said, "I know when it's time to pass the ball for victory."

Now she free to come to the lower 48 and get he campaign organised without spending state bucks.

or she slept with Mark Sanford

Your choice.

because her opponent can annihilate her based on the fact that she never even completed her first term as governor.

But its obvious she is going to run and position herself as the I save money  unlike obama candidate . She is none to bright and its easy to see.

A conservative believes nothing should be done for the first time

Its Sarah Palin's own explanation, and she's a pathological liar. It also just doesn't make any sense to drop out of your first term in office to run for president. She didn't do it for the campaign, and didn't even turn over the reigns to Lt gov during that period. No, somethings afoot here. There's an enigmatic quote (that could mean nothing) over at Huffpo:

Resignation is certainly out of character for Sarah Palin. Senator Mark Begich had a meeting with Sarah Palin two days ago with no mention of her leaving office. Palin's press secretary, David Murrow had posted on his Facebook page Wednesday, "David Murrow is considering life's ironies." He was hired less than a month ago. Yesterday he wrote, "There's gonna be some fireworks this weekend!"

Something is not Kosher in the state of Alaska. Also, you betcha also.

That's what everyone is predicting at this point. But KenTX told me that she would run as a third party reformer, ala Perot and Buchanon.

And KenTX is always right. Look at this post where he called Palin as the VP, long before even DC politcos had heard of her.

Sarah Palin has been absolutely gutted by the GOP. They intentionally fed her to the sharks in the Couric interview and Gibson interview. McCain people were trying to elicit the female sympathy vote.

They've spent the past six months destroying her reputation.

So why run third party?:

A. To get even.
B. To make history.
C. To get a long term gig on FoxNews.
D. To shake down the GOP for millions of dollars in extortion money.

I'm saying it's D.

And KenTX is always right.

If you knew KenTX half as well as the rest of us do, you'd know that's an exaggeration. Some of us would even call it "the opposite of true."

I didn't know KenTX had such a strong following. Did you write that in your diary like "wow, KenTX is predicting the VP, I better note this down so I can share it later when he's right!"

Sounds like you are way familiar with KenTX's own work:)

They intentionally fed her to the sharks in the Couric interview and Gibson interview.

They coached her to be clueless and uninformed?  Heartless bastards!

Please, oh please let her run in 2012.   Life would be very dull without her.

But KenTX told me that she would run as a third party reformer...And KenTX is always right.

You're showing strong signs of multiple conservative personality disorder, Huey.

In stepping down as governor, Palin said, "...we know we can effect positive change outside government, actually make a difference."

Apparently, she couldn't effect positive change and make a difference when she held the most powerful position in Alaska government.  But she says that she believes that when she has no power in government other than the same vote that any other citizen has, she can be more effective.

Of course, she could be lying.  There could be some other reason that she's resigning.

Hmmm... Stupid or lying?  I wonder which it is...

I bet that it's both.

Add to that her hugely unpopular attempt to reject the stimulus money, her per diem and travel expense claims that lots of Alaskans think were fraudulent, her continuing ethical problems, and her sinking poll numbers.  Put it all together and it's a slap-in-the-face kind of sign that even she could read.  She didn't stand a chance in the election, and she really does want to run for President.

I'm hoping that she doesn't run as an independent.  I think she could be the straw that breaks the elephant's back.

Most politicians are able to enter office impoverished, and leave as millionaires.

Sarah Palin should have been able to "influence&quo t; a few large pipeline contracts, and pocket a tidy profit.

But all of the intense scrutiny squelched the best laid plans.

So what the hell? QUIT! Write a couple of books. Get a paid position on MSNBC or Fox. Wait. And parlay your oddballness into bigger things in 2012.

The governorship was becoming a boat anchor around her neck.

It's so much harder when you actually have to deal with a budget that doesn't allow you to hand out checks, rather than collect taxes like everyone else.

by bfaul on 07/03/2009 05:28:43 PM EST

I still cant figure out what "tough choices" she was alluding too during the campaign when it came to her governance of Alaska. Sending the checks in a nice Hallmark gift card?

She was a VICTIM! SOB SOB SOB, if only she wasnt a victim she could complete her obligations as governor, but alas she has to pass the ball so that she can keep an eye on the ball cause a basket is more important than being a victim so instead she is going to stop working in Alaskan politics so that she can start working on Alaskan politics.

God what a train wreck.

by Smokin on 07/03/2009 05:51:22 PM EST

There's a very amusing opinion piece about this by Gail Collins in the NY Times.

Here's one quote from it:

Basically, the point was that Palin is quitting as governor because she’s not a quitter. Or a deceased salmon.

Here is another:

According to the about-to-be-ex governor, fighting all this negativity has cost the state “thousands of hours of your time” and $2 million “to respond to ‘opposition research.’ &rdqu o; But now this is all water under the bridge. Every single unfair charge has been dismissed. (“We’ve won!”) And now that the battle is over and the time/money has been wasted, Palin is going to leave her job in the name of “efficiencies and effectiveness.”

You have to give it Sarah, she doesn't waste time worrying about logic.

This resignation screams BLACKMAIL!!!
That Palin resigns during her FIRST TERM, before formally announcing her canidacy for president in some sensible time in 2010.

She did something VERY Non-Christian and DOES NOT want it to come out. And even if you consider yourself a republican or a conservative, you can't be mesmerized to not believe the facts at hand.

Listen, if Eliot Spitzer had resigned from his New York governorship last year without the prostitution scandal coming out in his first term I'd definitely think he was being blackmailed. I would not have been able to prove it, but I'd have a very strong conviction of his guilt.

Likewise, Palin did something very wrong and was blackmailed out of her office. Screw the righteous indignation. She's not a pastor, reverend, or priest and even those people have their falls. Palin IS A POLITICIAN and she did something she shouldn't have done, whether sexual indiscretion, monetary indiscretion or something else.

Like I said I don't know what she did but I know what she did.

by nigerachy1 on 07/03/2009 07:29:13 PM EST

Only thing that doesn't make sense about that: Resigning is no way to prevent people from becoming suspicious and sniffing around. Rather, it seems like a sure-fire way to get everyone into sleuth mode, which would be trouble for her to say the least. If she is trying to hide something, she just made a HUGE blunder and it won't stay secret for long.

this A.M. that she was planning to announce her intention not to run for governor, like most people I assumed she's running for president. Her stepping down though is BIZARRE. Has she been to Argentina lately?

So, a year after an election which mirrored Santos vs. Vinick (the fictional 2006 election in the West Wing) we now look set for a rerun of Bartlet vs. Ritchie.

For anyone that is not familiar with Bartlet/Ritchie (the 2002 West Wing election), it saw a campaign where Bartlet had to dance around the issue that Ritchie was an idiot. To quote: "Ritchie was known for a folksy, down-to-earth style and a simplistic manner of speaking with which he was able to communicate with people, in contrast to the intellectualism of President Bartlet."

Sound familiar to anyone?

TYT needs to call an emergency show together this weekend.  I can't wait until Tuesday to get Cenk's take on Palin's resignation.

Here's what I think:  She hated her job.  She knew that she wasn't going to get anything more accomplished as Governor.  She was pissed at having to defend herself from ethics complaints.  She did know that would continue until the end of her term perhaps with a several more minor scandals to come to light.

And then she got the idea of resigning, and she's so stupid that she thought his was a cool, mavericky, smart idea.  Plus, it would allow her to quit the job of actually governing.  She only consulted a very small circle of her incompetent staff and family and then went ahead with this decision.

What do you think?  Is that plausible?

by publius on 07/04/2009 10:54:59 AM EST

Why else would he call himself "Big" ?  I don't imagine it has anything to do with the size of his penis, because that is the only thing that could be any smaller than his brain.

BD - You are the epitomy of ignorance. USA lost ALL of its integrity the minute Bush pre-emptively attacked Iraq for No Reasons (as everyone but he and the Conservatives/Repub knew). You and everybody like you, have ruined your country and the world's opinion of your country.

You will never be "forced" to thank him, but I assure you, Obama already has done and will continue to do more to improve the world's opinion of you and your fellow citizens than has been done in total since the end of the 2nd World War.

You are an ignorant fool, both intellectually and factually. You closed-minded fuck. Get a life, open your eyes, soften your heart and grab a brain. Then and only then will ANYTHING you EVER have to say, hold any meaning to anyone that isn't Mentally Retarded ... Otherwise Known as Republican.

Until then, you are simply wasting Server Space. But thanks for the good laughs anyway. I busted a gut realizing just how stupid you are. In fact, you are so stupid, you are too stupid to even recognize your own stupidity. That is Extremely STUPID.    I'd ask if you get it ... but you are obviously too stupid to remember already.

Famous words by BD ... What's my Lunchbox ? Where's my Name ?

Oh and one last thing ... since you are so insecure that you require such a nickname, why don't you just get it over with; have surgery and take that little flap of skin you call a penis, and turn it into something useful ... besides, it sounds like you already experience PMS. Biotch.

My 2 cents: Palin's 14 year old daughter really DID get knocked up. I know, I'm the bad guy. But I say this based on absolutely nothing.

The first time I saw her, I thought she was fairly attractive.  But every time I see her now, I just hear "also, and that, also, too."  I'm worried.  I don't find her sexually attractive at all, and I remember when I would have fucked any woman.

Did you hear her press conference today?  I've never heard a public officeholder ramble on about irrelevancies that long.
