Cap and Trade vs National Clean Energy Independence

Why do the democrats constantly get bogged down in the most needless semantic arguments when a goals oriented approach is so much more efficient and practical?  The entire global warming/climate change approach has done so much more damage than good, particularly when there is such an abundance of other visible damage from the pursuit and consumption of fossil fuels.

One need only look to Iraq or our trade deficit to see the problems with our dependence on foreign oil. A commercial demonstrating the process of mountain top mining and the associated environmental damage or slag spill would be all you need to demonstrate there is no such thing as clean coal.

Unfortunately, not only has the Obama administration failed to frame the fossil fuel argument correctly, other than on inauguration day, he has allowed Van Jones and the banks to squash the best opportunity this country has ever had to move the country towards energy independence. Van has taken what should have been a national clean energy program that would have quickly put the country on a track to clean energy independence and turned it into a minority jobs program with little more outreach and real impact than the Youth Corps organizations of the past.

Meanwhile the trillions of dollars that went into saving the banks at the expense of the homes and home owners has left the US consumer behind, along with any real chance of a sustained recovery. Despite the generous green energy tax credit passed into law by President Bush, most home owners cannot borrow enough money upfront to take advantage of the program.
