That article goes out of its way to paint Bark Stupak as some kind of anti-healthcare boogie man. The idea being that because he is anti-abortion/stem cell (just the embryo ones) they make it sound like he is going to block healthcare reform.
If our lawmakers cannot figure out a way to add in "no federal dollars for abortions" to make Stupak happy I think we have some major problems.
If you read the article you may not notice but almost nothing in it is actually about him....
Anyways this is a Dem in a republican district, and he keeps winning. He almost always votes with Dems. There are two things he doesnt vote with Dems on, immigration and abortion.
This guy has a lot of good information on his site. For example much of the Rep BS about healthcare is answered on Stupaks site.
Apparently the writer of this article thinks it would be better for a Republican to be in this district never voting with the Dems ever, instead of most of the time. This is a very religious area. You would have to be one hell of a good talker to get around a "baby killer" title with religious people. In other words this area is not likely to support anyone that is pro-rights so people need to pick their battles and learn when to shut the fuck up.
I do not agree with him on abortion, but I do agree with him an many other issues and he has done some really good work.
It is stuff like this that drives me up a wall. Helping republicans in a republican district is fucking stupid.
