Obama's Bubble

Interesting article.

Obama's Bubble

I enjoyed Gergen's last line about the psychiatrists and the light bulb - Obama doesn't want to change things because to him, he is the most important factor, not whoever surrounds him.

I don't think we have ever seen a more self centered president in recent history - its amazing how he is so inefficient and a poor manager, but nothing is ever his fault. Ever...

Obama doesn't want to change, and his advisors are either too scared or to corrupted to say anything about it...

You see other people through the filter of your own character and not as they really are because you are unable to examine your own character.

You see Obama as being "self-centered", when that clearly isn't the case.  He genuinely wants health care reform because it would help others.  He genuinely wants peace in the Middle East because it would help others.  He doesn't need either of those things either for himself or for his friends.  Republicans, on the other hand, don't do anything that is in the public interest unless it is in their personal interest, and what is in their personal interest usually isn't in the public's interest.  You clearly are the one who is self-centered.  You want society to provide for you, but you are unwilling to give anything back to it.

You also say that Obama has the attitude that "nothing is ever his fault".  But you have the attitude that nothing is ever your fault because you deny your personal responsibility for the problems faced by your community and your country.  All you do is complain, and you never lend a helping hand.  Because you don't want any responsibility, it's easier for you to blame others for your own shortcomings rather than to actually contribute something of value to the world.

I said that Obama was self centered and a poor executive manager. How does any of that relate to me, personally?

How is it that if I say something that offends Obama, you go off on yet another personal attack on me, yet you will bitch and complain about how bad Obama is, how he isn't doing what you want him to do all the while defending him to the max against my small comment???

You need to decide whether you like him or not and stick with it. Either you do or you don't. It isn't a hard decision (even for you)...

On several occasions, I've written comments that you have responded to by asking a question that was directly addressed by my comments.  It's as if you hadn't even read what I wrote.  My entire comment described how it relates to you, Bob, yet you still asked the question.

The opinion expressed by that article is very wide-spread in the country: Obama is not being well-served because, for one reason or another, he is insulated from outside voices.  He acts like he's commanding a rowboat with a small crew rather than a ship, with the result that the ship is going adrift because his small crew thinks they don't need anyone else.  If he was running a campaign, that might actually be true.  But when you're running a country, you need as many allies -- and to listen to as many outside voices -- as you can get.

Hopefully, we might be seeing signs that Obama is starting to get frustrated with his lack of results and successes.  As his frustration mounts, he might be willing to consider that his narrow circle is not serving him well.  Also hopefully, he will come to that realization before it is too late to save either his presidency or, more importantly, the country.
