Bottled water

Watched the movie Tapped today on water bottle free day (occurred in hundreds of universities and clleges today) and opened my eyes more widely towards bottled water.

Tapped, the Movie is the website for the video and many screenings occur and you can just request a screening to be held in your community if you want. Video talks about how during droughts in the USA companies like Nestle, Coke and Pepsi still march right into rural communities and pump out their groundwater for free as well as just filter tap water which goes into bottled water as well in more urbanised areas. The video also discusses the weak regulation of bottled water and how it is way more dangerous than tap water. It does discuss that hard plastic bottles might not be a safe alternative as many bottles leach harmful chemicals and it goes into moderate detail on that. It also sheds light on the 46% increase in plastic in our worlds oceans, and this 46% increase is in comparison to 2007 results not the 90s or earlier.

In a glass bottle.
Reusable and no chemicals.

PS: When you are using tap water you should not use the first pint that comes form the tap, because it contaminated with stuff from your plumbing fixtures.

I used to sneer at the bottled water buyers, but I live in Medford, where the tap water is good.

When I visited a friend in Phoenix, I understood why everyone there buys bottled - their water is undrinkable! The amount of used plastic per day must be horrendous, though.

So, I see both sides. Some wise guy will come up with a more "green" alternative to packaging and make a fortune - but don't expect the price to come down...

If you get the chance, I recommend the Penn & Teller episode of "Bullshit!" on bottled water. First or second season, I believe...

I'm far too logical to drink anything but, I have to turn down bottled water just on principle.

One of the biggest scams on the american people is the bottled water craze, everyone spends a small fortune for what we essentially can get out of our tap water.

I buy water in gallons, refill the bottle at the Glacier filtered water machine for 25 or 30 cents a gallon about ten times, and then recycle the bottle and buy a new one. Now, the Glacier machine is connected to the public water supply, but the treatment processes make a huge difference both in taste and healthfulness.

Tap water here in San Diego is just horrendously undrinkable until it's been filtered. Among other things, the Colorado river is contaminated by an ongoing leak of radioactive waste.

Oh, and I have been doing this routine for my drinking water since the summer of 1977.

I use one of those 5 gallon jugs you fill up at those windmill water filling stations.

The problem with those machines is they dont properly maintain them, so the machines act more like a nasty shit injector than a nasty shit filter. Typically the water in vending machine like spots are so much more dirtier than standard tap water and somehow collect nasty germs to boot.

The Glacier machines are properly maintained. I've watched the process, and talked to the tech.

Plus there's a readout on the front of the machine to show last maintenance date, and it's always within the last 7 days.

I just boil water from tap and drink out of glass as needed.

I don't store the water so I really don't worry about wasting plastic. For workouts I use thermos.
