Christians Urged to Boycott Glenn Beck

In response to Glenn Beck's comments alluding that social justice is akin to communism and the Nazis, Christians are being urged to boycott Mr. Beck's show.

Anyone who watches TYT no doubt saw the piece about Glenn Beck and how he is trying to convince parishioners that social and economic justice are mere code words for Nazi and communist ideals. Mr. Beck urged his listeners to abandon their affiliation with the church, as well as bring the issue to the attention of church elders as an incorrect teaching of Christian values.

Per an article on CNN, "The Rev. Jim Wallis, president of Sojourners, a network of progressive Christians, says Beck perverted Jesus' message when he urged Christians last week to leave churches that preach social and economic justice."

Reverend Wallis also states that he would like to confront Glenn Beck to correct his distorted views about Christianity.

The article also states that Evangelical Reverend Jerry Falwell believes that Christians should not be so quick to support social and economic justice, and that socialist behaviors, such as taking from the rich to give to the poor is not necessarily a tenet of Christianity.

However, the Bible has many references to social and economic justice, and there are references in both the Old and New Testaments.

Jer. 22:3. Do justice and righteousness, and deliver the one who has been robbed from the power of his oppressor. Also do not mistreat or do violence to the stranger, the orphan, or the widow; and do not shed innocent blood in this place.

Lev. 19:19ff. Now when you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not reap to the very corners of your field, neither shall you gather the gleanings of your harvest. Nor shall you glean your vineyard, nor shall you gather the fallen fruit of your vineyard; you shall leave them for the needy and for the stranger. I am the LORD your God.

Luke 14:12-14. "When you give a luncheon or a dinner, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or rich neighbors, lest they also invite you in return, and repayment come to you. But when you give a reception, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed, since they do not have the means to repay you; for you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous."

As an atheist, I was completely offended by Mr. Beck's remarks, not because of any belief system I possess, but because I have numerous Christian friends (Republican, too!) who regularly practice charity, social and economic justice, and do so in accordance with religious teachings and beliefs.

Although I don't think it will come to pass, I believe that any punishment for Mr. Beck short of termination is highly irresponsible. Perhaps Glenn Beck should be subjected to some good old-fashioned, Biblical justice.

Um, Amen!

This was a really stupid comment by Beck.  He should stick with what he knows best, entertainment.  Discussing the underlying principles of Christianity is not his forte.  Since Beck twists the truth to promote divisiveness I guess he couldn't resist.  Next he'll be talking about the evidence that Christ was married and had a child, ala "Davinci Code".

Don't waste your vote, vote Green or Independent in the next election.

The Dimwit Beck ... He has no authority/credibility telling Christians what to do ... see as he being a Mormon & all ... Mormonism is the worst religion to be ever established.

The beliefs of Scientology is far more credible than the beliefs/teaching of Mormonism.

A Proud Progressive!!!

[ Parent ]

Exodus 20.16: "You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor."

Beck breaks this commandment every time he calls someone a Nazi and whatnot.

but why has his (and Romney's) Mormonism been allowed to slip under the radar?

What advertisements aired during the commercial breaks surrounding that segment of Glenn Beck's show?

The Churches don't need to boycott the show.  Just pay attention to which businesses buy advertising time and adjust their purchasing patterns accordingly.

Cenk doesn't need to embargo Glenn Beck stories.  Just let us know who sponsors any particular Beck rant.  Empower the TYT Army to decide if we still want to buy those products.

but I don't think that his regular listeners are doing a lot of thinking. They just listen and then go out and repeat. If there was a lot of thinking about what he was actually saying, a large percentage would be offended after just a few programs.
