To protest or not to protest...

So my employer is at it again. They invited another Neo Conservative to come speak to employees while acting as if they are neutral politically. First John McCain then Newt Gingrich and now Karl Rove! I am not prone to letting my political views be heard at work but my employer has not only invited Karl Rove to speak but they are endorsing the man as some kind of war hero while plugging his book about his "life as a Conservative in the fight". I have a strong urge to protest but he is being brought to speak by my employer none the less.

So my question to all of you is a two part question: 1. Would you protest at an event sponsored by your employer? 2. How could one protest with out jepordizing ones employment? Your feedback is definitely appreciated.

My advice would be go talk to someone--politely.

I wouldn't protest or act rude in any way.  But it couldn't hurt to get face time with people you probably wouldn't have a chance to talk to.  That is, unless they are total dicks.  And if they invited these speakers they are probably dicks.  So I take that back.  Stay quiet.

I see nothing to be gained by protest. Unless it is organized and a threat to the company, it will probably accomplish nothing but to put you on the radar of a boss who, it sounds like, would want to fire you for your views.

I worked at a small defense contractor for a while in the mid-90's. It was a massively conservative environment, and my boss was both homophobic and anti-semitic to a disgusting extreme.

All in all, very uncomfortable at times.

speakers they have brought in I don't think there is anything to gain by speaking out. What is more likely to happen is that it will be remembered and used against you. I know that would be illegal, but that would stop nothing. In the larger context, working for a company where the owners have different political views is fine. Working for a company where the execs think they have a right to indoctrinate their employees in this one sided way sounds like long term hell.

by working for, and earning profits for, an employer that consider a war criminal like rove to be a hero, you are also aiding and abetting in these war crimes.
