The American Experience

American Experience

So I was watching the show American Experience on WETA yesterday and I gained a bit of perspective. We think the fighting in Congress today is bad...but people used to actually engage in fisticuffs right on the floor of the Congress back in the day of the founding fathers! The fighting was so bad between the Federalists and the Republicans that people had regular duels. Dolly Madison was the one to finally to say, "Hey, lets chill out guys...let's all have a drink and some tasty finger treats." And thus, the White House was born. mmm. I love history.

Yeah, the political fighting was worse centuries ago.
I discussed this briefly with ihavenobias/Tom Hanc a long time ago: I love how morons think that the phenomena of this era are so much different than anything else that has ever occured-- usually people who have no sense of history.

But I hope that you're joking about the Dolly Madison part. It sounds like a Thom HArtmann version of history.
Of course, he would add, "THEN ALONG CAME REAGAN, AND HE RAPED DOLLY MADISON!"
