Why the sleeze?

The Young Turks is a substantial voice for Liberalism, and are meant to act with integrity. So why the sleeze?

I mean, maybe this is just a culture shock, me being British, but as far as I've seen none of the other serious news sites host adverts such as "Hot Adult Toys+Lingerie" on their homepage.

And try looking at their youtube headlines as well. In the last half-week alone there's been, "MTV Penis Sculpture Outrages Town", "Michelle "Bombshell" McGee Photos (Sandra Bullock's Husbands Alleged Lover)", and "Tiger Woods Porn Star Mistress Launches Website". I mean it's semi-pornographic for God's sake (not that I'm even against that in principal, but it's a bit wierd to try to compete with the rest of the internet without actual nudity)

I mean, maybe it's an American thing, but I have to ask, doesn't it kind of detract from the whole "we deserve to be taken seriously" effect?

The ad up top of here (although very attractive) detracts from the seriousness of the site.

Are you guys THAT desperate for ad revenue that you must resort to porn?

Guess that "hope & change" aint workin' for TYT either...

Don't see the Ad you're referring to ... it maybe because I'm using Ad-Block Firefox Plugin. I suggest you install this if you don't like seeing it.

p.s .. BTW are you sure the Ad isn't a google ad ..??

It might be that, but I'm using standard internet browsing technology and it's there. The point is that TYT tolerate it.

 I don't care that much, but it does detract from TYT's seriousness. And none of the other serious news sites seem unable to get rid of it.

As for the ads, well... I can't really defend the adult toys ad except to say that the girl in that ad is fun to look at. One time, I actually saw an ad on the TYT site that was pro-conservative, which I thought was weird.

As for the trashy stories... well, a lot of TYT viewers stumbled upon TYT because they are gossip hounds or interested in some of the more sleazy stories...  This was the way I found TYT... there was some scandal going on and I saw Cenk & Ana's take on it and I thought it was funny.

Then about a week later I stumbed upon Cenk and Ana doing another sleazy current events scandal. By this time they were familiar to me.  At this point I started watching other TYT videos (the political ones) and then I became a devoted everyday listener.

So, I would say these sleazy stories are going to attract more viewers than they thwart.

I mean, who doesn't like a little sleaze once in a while? It's not like we're the Christian Right or anything.

The pop culture parts are some of my favorite parts of the show too.  Not because I care about the subject matter, but because I enjoy hearing Cenk and Ana's (and previously Jill's) take on it.

I don't see the ad you're referring to. I see a 7-UP ad. Here's the way google ads work: they track your web habits and tailor the ads to the user with very sophisticated software. The reason you all see porn ads on TYT is because you watch too much porn!! Quit wacking off and and try to be more constructive with your time. Don't blame the young turks.

TYT needs to get rid of it if they want to be taken seriously in politics...

I run a website. I have advertising. Like the vast majority, it's automated. I don't choose what is shown. I can't choose. Indeed, it's hard for me to even regulate it bar excluding specific websites if and when they appear.

If something dodgy shows up, and I'm not around to block it or my service provider doesn't allow it for whatever reason, well... we have issues. But that situation has never come up.

The answer for TYT is to find a better advertising service that filters a little better what is shown.

Ana said that this McGee Mistress was "trashy" and at first I kinda felt bad for this tattooed lady...   However, after some additional research I have to agree with Ana 100% - this woman is a complete piece of trash.

Apparently she just released a new video of her stripping in a strip club to take advantage of the publicity she's getting for destroying the Oscar-winner's marriage. Nice move.

I would have posted the stripping video here, but I forgot how to do it. Maybe Evening Star can help me. Anyway, all I can say about her stripping video is that she better keep her day job because she's a horrible stripper...  Zero talent in the stripping department.  Plus, to Ana's point the tattoo's are totally distracting AND I can tell you Jayar would definitely add that the woman has nothing going in the booty department. Nothing!

If any of you have seen recent semi-nude shots of Sanda Bullock in her movies (i.e. The Proposal) it's 100% clear that Sandra's body is 100% better than this McGee chick.. who's implants are about the only redeeming aspect of her figure. Sandra Bullock, on the other hand, has a gorgeous, unmarred, un-tattooed body with curves, nicely done implants, flat stomach and a booty.  

PLUS, this McGee tramp likes to model "Angry White Girl" clothing, has White Power tatoos, and dresses up in Nazi outfits for photoshoots, despite the fact that she has a Jewish kid.  Keep it classy, San Diego...

All I have to say to Jesse James is WHAT THE FUCK? You have this wife, who is beautiful and talented and hot and successful and you cheat on her with this "swamp thing"???  What the hell is going on with that man?

It seems to me Cenk is taken seriously. He gets interviewed by mainstream media fairly regularly, gets substantial guests like Michael Moore, gets a lot of hits on youtube, and has a large following on the TYT website. Perhaps it is because he and his show are both informative and entertaining. Since there is nothing immoral about the sleaze and it doesn't seem to harm the show, why "fix" it?
