A film-related dilemna and a Conservative fail

I have two things to discuss here: one is to do with a conservative fail and the other is a simple favour. First, kicking off with the Conservative fail!

Now for all those from the UK or those who follow British politics, you may be aware of the Labour peer Lord Paul. The billionaire peer had a 'nom dom' status which meant his earnings from overseas were not taxed. Due to the scandal surrounding that (and the Conservative party getting into a piss over it) he is doing the right thing and ending that effective from the next tax year. Excellent! Problem solved! The Conservative party then proceed to do what they always do: get very righteous.

Except now it's come back to bite them on the arse, just like the way it does to the Republicans in America. Their top donor & deputy chairman, Lord Ashcroft, has had to admit that HE has a 'nom-dom' status. The exact one the Conservative party got to mental over. And how does the party leader, David Cameron, respond to this? Backpeddling of epic proportions. In a television interview with BBC Political Editor Nick Robinson, David Cameron just made the argument of "They did it first!" on the Labour party. Ooooh dear....the conservatives on both sides of the pond just don't learn!

As for the second thing I wanted to discuss is to do with a personal project of mine. I do a Film & Video course and to help me achieve my dream of being in the film industry, I'm working on a film to shoot during the summer in Cardiff. I have two scripts and I need TYT's help in deciding which one to do. Poll time!

i follow british politics somewhat and noticed that the conservatives lost a few percentage points in recent polls. however, we should see the situation as it is:
brown is doomed. he has no charisma, he's viewed as a technocrat yet his administration suffers from clumsy enaction of way too centrist legislation....not to forget the plethora of internal scandals of the past 2 years.

so look forward to PM cameron..i hope the brits are gonna come to their senses in some time.

inspiration --- good luck in your aspirations

Plot line #1 --- THE BURNING BED starring Farrah Fawcett
Part 1 of 9 on You Tube
From IMDb - Abused battered wife has had enough of husband beating up on her. Everywhere she turns for help, there's not much anyone will do. After he rapes one night, she sets the bed on fire with him in it while asleep.

Plot line #2 --- "GUERRILLA * THE TAKING OF PATTY HEARST" a documentary
Part 1 of 9 on You Tube
from IMBd My primary criticism, however, is that Patty Hearst is almost given a pass in that the director did not thoroughly explore her strange transformation from sheltered heiress to committed revolutionary and back again to sheltered heiress and slick little phony. After her apprehension, upon the advice of her lawyers and under the renewed influence of her family, she began to claim that she'd never committed any antisocial acts as "Tania" that weren't forced upon her by her comrades in the SLA, although clearly, this position was at odds with the record. The filmmaker more or less allowed the viewer to form their own conclusions, which may account for some of the downright silly reactions heard by some of the documentary's younger viewers who see Patty as a heroine rather than a chameleon changing perspectives and personalities as easily as donning a new set of clothes. She not only renounced and insulted her parents and her upbringing, but ultimately regarded in similar fashion the memories of her brutally slain comrades in arms. Obviously, the jury didn't buy it and she was sentenced to seven years in prison for voluntary participation in the Hibernia Bank robbery. That she was given clemency by President Carter after serving less than two years of her sentence, allowed to publish a book and profit from it handsomely, and later given a pardon by President Clinton, merely underscores the fact that here we have a very privileged person, indeed. The most ironic thing is that her parents are now both deceased, and presumably, she and her sisters more or less control the media empire built up by her grandfather and handed down to them by her dad. In effect, therefore, she has become part and parcel of "the fascist insect that preys upon the life of the people."

That's an interesting thing to bring up - I've never seen the film but I've heard of the case as I studied it briefly in preparation for writing this script. I looked more at Natascha Kampusch for reference. The syndrome itself is very hard to study as there is not much written about it. I want to give the syndrome proper justice so I've made a character up rather than do a biopic. I hope I do a better job than Robert Stone!

Maybe TYT can be the judge of that!
