Dan Rather's Watermelons...

Havent been around too much this week, was waiting for someone to post on this yesterday or today, but of course, no one did....

Un-Fucking-Believable...

Where is Al Sharpton?

Where is Jesse Jackson?

Where is the MSM?

Where is TYT?

Where is the outrage?

Hypocrits all around!

The outrage is where it belongs.

Nowhere.

You'd think a Libertarian/Conservative/Fr ee Market type like you would understand the difference between selling watermelons (to who? We'll never know, thanks to Matthew's annoying interruption) and portraying the President as some field nee-gro eating watermelon.

Dan Rather? Some "homespun" comment? Wow. Who'd a thunk it...

by MedfordTim on 03/09/2010 11:07:11 PM EST

Apples?

Oranges?

Pears?

Tangerines?

Onions?

Why Watermelons?

Could it be that pesky association between African Americans & Watermelons?

Why would a LIBERAL make that particular "homespun" comment?

Hmmmm....

I'm still waiting for the Reverend Sharpton to raise Hell...

Hypocrits, all of them!

:)

Because homespun folksy Texas types use the word "watermelon."

You're being as daffy as the people who thought the Aussie KFC ad was racist.

Prove it...

Anyone from Texas want to back that up?

Please tell me that if you think of selling something on the side of the road that "watermelons" FIRST comes to mind...

Anyone?

Puhleeze Tim, you usually do better than this weak sauce....

We'll never know because Chris Matthews is an ass.

UPDATE: The rest has been articulated.

"But he couldn't sell watermelons if uh, you gave him the state troopers to flag down the traffic"

Yeah. Wow. That's, uh, really a racial statement...not...

What all you Righties freaking out about THIS nonsense are missing is that Rather blasted Obama for being an ineffectual salesman.

And you know what? He's RIGHT!

That its OK for Dan Rather to associate our first African American to "watermelons" in any capacity?

Its OK if he's selling them (as opposed to the thousands of other fruits he could sell), butits not OK if he's eating them (with the same plethora of choices)...

Am I getting you straight here, Tim?

Can we get conffirmation that it is in fact OK to associate Obama with watermelons, as long as it is a Liberal saying it?

Is how stupid people keep claiming Southern food is African American food.

I grew up in the South and was raised eating fried chicken, collard greens, watermelon, catfish, fatback, Bar B Qued ribs, chitlins, Country Fried Steak, ham hock, and even the occasional pigs feet.

It's what people in the South eat. Has nothing to do with race, it has to do with region.

Any person be they black, white, brown, or green who really believes that any of the food items listed above is somehow race specific or  "racist" is racist.

One of the great traditions of the South and joys of my youth was my father stopping on the roadside to buy a watermelon from the farmer who had set his truck up on the side of the road to sell his produce. They were referred to as "peddlers" because they peddled their wares. Truck bought watermelons where always better than the ones you bought at the store. Often you took it to the creek (in my case it was called "cold water creek" and let it sit in the creek to chill while lunch was served, a plethera of food including many of the items mentioned above but always potato salad.

As a young teen a Southern boy learns how to "spike" a watermelon with a bottle of cheap alcohol and let it sit for a few days before serving at the swimming hole for a real party.

Only fucking idiots or ignorant people including Chris Mathews choose to interject "race" into what was a way of life for the majority of people who grew up in the South.

Would it have been better if he has said "couldn't sell ice water in hell" or perhaps "couldn't sell pot at a Grateful Dead concert".

was stupid  exactly because so many people interject race in the watermelon thing..  it was a bad analogy  but I agree with the underlying idea.

I remember the outrage  because a regressive sent out a  picture of  watermelons growing on the lawn of the White House. It has a racial connotation for a good number of people.

For some reason  .. I dont know how it got in my head. The water melon stuff immediately makes me think the person is calling black people ignorant and less than them.

Too bad the Righties couldn't deny the FACTS and had to go after a FONT instead. Would have made your case a whole lot stronger.

There is, in fact, a new episode of Dan Rather Reports airing tonight. Don't miss it!
