Dr Laura says the N-word - then appologizes

Yeah,

I don't care much either way.

What bugs me more is the "apology", they always seem so fake.

The rant:

http://www.breitbart.tv/dr- laura-apologizes-for-using- n-word-on-air/

The apology:

 http://www.drlaurablo g.com/2010/08/11/my-apology /

The prediction:

This will come up on the "Ana-hour" on TYT (if it hasn't already), and Jayar will get to rule on whether it was racist or not...

of a white woman.  Here are some of the inflammatory things she said:

  1. To the Black woman:  "Don't take it out of context! Don't NAACP me!"
  2. After the Black woman said she wasn't comfortable with Laura saying the n-word Laura says "I'll say it again: N-word, N-word, N-word!"
  3. "You're being hypersensitive!"
  4. "A lot of Blacks voted for Obama because he was half Black. It didn't matter what he was going to do in office. It's a Black thing. You gotta know that."
  5. "All right, All right, chip on your shoulder... there's not much I can do about that."
  6. "If you don't have a sense of humor or you're hypersensitive - don't marry outside of your race!"
  7. "What I just heard from Jade was a lot of Black-Think and it's really distressing and disturbing."
  8. "Okay, Hypersensitivity! Which is being bred by black activists"
  9. "I thought that once we had a Black President the attempt to demonize whites would stop."

Holy shit, there's a lot more in here besides the n-word. This Laura woman is a piece of work. i don't listen to her show but if I was a viewer before, I certainly would never support her, listen to her or buy her books again. Also, if I was an advertiser I would pull my ads and as a consumer I would boycott any product that was advertised during her show. This is crazy. She just showed her true colors and she's worse than Glenn Beck.

All in all, Laura said the N-word (but not the n-word, the actual word) on her show eleven times in a conversation with a Black caller who was clearly not a fan of that word and didn't find it acceptable even when used by Black people!!!  Laura cut the woman off every time she tried to talk about how she felt and then accused her of not letting her say anything! Finally, she hung up on her!

As for her lame apology, I don't think she's sorry at all. I think she got a major elbow from the sky. In fact, I think the sky opened up on her and she got a downpour of elbows from the sky. I think now she's feeling sorry for herself and I don't think she's learned a fucking thing about it. You can tell that her mind is so hardened and she's so self-righteous that she considers herself an expert on how to talk to black people and how black people should feel. Also, she clearly hates the NAACP, black activists, and "black-think" whatever that is.

The woman is a big hot racist mess. End of story. If Cenk, Ana or Jayar defends this woman I will go fucking ballistic.

I always love the "quit being hyper-sensitive" dismissal.

Dr. Laura only apologized for using the N-word, which I found the least offensive part of her rant.  Where is the apology for assuming that all black people think alike or that they think differently from white people?  Where is the apology for using "NAACP" as a verb with a negative connotation?  Where is the apology for denouncing interracial marriage?  Where is the apology for assuming all black people are hypersensitive?  Where is the apology for hanging up on a caller who was seeking advice?  Why did Dr. Laura even bring up Obama?  The President's race has nothing to do with this caller's problem with her husband's friends making racist remarks.

that's why I think that she really isn't sorry.  I bet you a million dollars she runs her mouth like this all the time (just not on air) and nobody ever told her what a bigot she is.

She has a lot of hate built up inside her and her entire rant was offensive. Yet, I bet she's sitting around completely feeling sorry for herself about the "unfairness of it all" because in her mind, she is 100% correct about all the other stuff. In her mind, the only bad thing she said was the "n-word" and even that she still had to be publicly rebuked before she realized she wasn't entitled to say it 11 times to a black caller that she hung up on.

I'm glad this happened and I truly think that Obama becoming President has brought people like Dr. Laura up to the surface.  People who are just seething inside because we have a black president. To your point, why the hell did she even feel compelled to bring it up?? Like the scary clown that pops out of the Jack-in-the-Box,  her true racist face popped out of the box.. all she needed was someone to wind her up.

Amen to her being un-masked publicly. I hope she enjoys her early retirement.

She went with the "why can blacks say it when whites can't?" line that's been a favorite of racists for as long as I can remember.

by Spencer on 08/13/2010 03:27:57 PM EST

For one thing I don't need to use it and even if I felt I did, as a white woman I wouldn't use that word because doing so is hurtful and I don't want to hurt people. If I want to discuss it's use, like in this post, I can use the n-word form and everybody will understand what I mean by it.

I really don't have a problem with the fairness of it all. That is a stupid argument. This word, however,  is interesting from a linguistic point of view, It's an example where the meaning of the word changes depending on who is saying it and to whom. So it's not unfair at all. It's the way the language works and is neither fair or unfair. So suck it up and get over it.

how the word changes depending on who uses it.  Your comment is great!!!

The meaning even changes within the black community depending on how, when and where it is used.

I think it is about how you use it, way more than who uses it.

be the word that replaces "man" or "dude" in the black male community but sometimes it is.  Because it has different meanings, to me it is more complex than simply calling a woman a ho...

If you call a woman a ho, you are calling that woman a "whore".  There is no debate about that.  I don't know of a nice way to call a woman a "Ho".

Or what about when women call each other "Bitch", is that not OK for them to do?  I think it is.  I also think that if I call a woman a "Bitch" she has every right to be upset.

But even the "N-word" vs "Bitch" comparison is not the same.

I agree we need to find better words in the black community.  This will always be a tough issue!

I don't understand the argument either.  It might have something to do with the fact that neither of us are racist.

When people say "How come black people can say it when I can't?" I always just assume they really mean "Wah!  I wanna call them niggers too!  Black people get to have all the fun."*  It annoys them because they're just dying to say it, and it 's torture that they can't say it while black people tantalizingly wave it around in front of their faces.  It would be like if the word "moron" had a similar stigma.  I'd walk around furious that morons are able to call each other morons, but I'm not allowed to.  That would be torture, because I see morons all the time and want to tell them that their morons.  Dr. Laura (and her ilk) see black people and are just dying to call them...  Damn it, I refuse to type it again.

(* - Notice how the context in which I used the word there made it clear that I wasn't actually being racist, and how I satirically used the racist's own word to mock them for their dumbass beliefs?  That's another example of what I was clumsily trying to say in this thread.)

As the situation in the USA grows ever more grim, you're going to be seeing and hearing a lot more racism of this sort. People are starting to just come clean about how they feel.

You will also see a significant rise in overt anti-semitic comments; partly because people are just coming out with how they've always felt, and partly in reaction to the ever more outrageous behavior of Israel and its US supporters.

by RedPossum on 08/13/2010 07:55:29 PM EST

she should really apollogize for her utter dismissal of even hearing the situation and her complete disregard for this woman by continually labeling her hypersensitive. as someone whos been in the situation, you don't make anything better by ignoring it and saying "oh you're just being hypersensitive." yeah, could be that, but we don't know because we never heard what was even being said. dr. laura is a moron and I'm sure her black hired help thinks so too.
