Why We Have a Deficit UPDATE!
I have often pondered this issue.
I have read the various explanations that blame the Democrats or the Republicans.
After today, I am certain I finally have an understanding of the problem.

"Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., tells radio talker Laura Ingraham that 1.6 million attended Saturday's Glenn Beck rally in Washington. She said she got the estimate from a National Park Service source." 9-1-10
Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.), who spoke at a separate event at the Washington Monument after the rally, suggested there were at least one million. 8-30-10
Glenn Beck said today that his "Restoring Honor" rally attracted "a minimum of 500,000 8-29-10
Beck told the crowd he had heard the turnout was between 300,000 and 500,000. 8-28-10
Palin, one of the speakers at the event, said she believed there were more than 100,000 people there; 8-28-10
Beck, predicted that at least 100,000 people would show up 8-27-10
AirPhotosLive.com gave its estimate a margin of error of 9,000, meaning between 78,000 and 96,000 people attended the rally. The photos used to make the estimate were taken at noon Saturday, which is when the company estimated was the rally's high point. 8-29-10
For the record, Michele, the Park Service does not do crowd estimates.
Now for the facts:
This link shows roughly 400 photos the company took at the rally, awful lot of green in between the people. My estimate is 120k, tops.
The fact is that the right wants to spin this rally to show overwhelming support for their policies.
The fact is, what ever the outcome of the November election,it will have very little to do with Glen Beck and his pseudo-religious clap trap and everything to do with GOP obstructionism to prolong the recovery and the inability of Democratic candidates to capitalize on their true motives.
Professor Stephen Doig of Arizona State University, a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist and crowd estimate expert, came up with figures:
Doig estimated that there were 80,000 people at the "Restoring Honor" rally, while AirPhotosLive.com estimated that there were 87,000 people, a statistically insignificant different since the margin of error was 9,000. CBS News elected to use the higher estimate.
In a blog post, Doig, writing from Portugal, noted that he estimated the crowd at Mr. Obama's inauguration at roughly 800,000 - a number critics assailed as too low.
"Crowd counting, particularly of political events, always is controversial," he wrote. "The organizers of the event inevitably hype their crowd estimate -- often grossly -- to demonstrate the popularity of their cause, and opponents inevitably underestimate to fit their own agenda.
Because of the wild pre-inauguration predictions of how many would attend in person -- up to 5 million! -- my reality-based estimate was ignored by many left-wing commentators and embraced by those on the right."
Facts are simple things. You can claim just about anything and spin it to your advantage.
