The "swift boat" stain

The veterans of the Swift boats in Vietnam are dismayed at the ugly connotations that have become associated with the now common term "swift boating".

They feel that it is unfair that the term is now most often associated with a political sliming tactic that most regard as despicable and underhanded.

Now here's something you don't see everyday.  Shareholders in Exxon are trying to force by vote resolutions that would require Exxon to spend more time and money focusing on the effects of global warming and to do more research on alternative fuels.

Republican legacy, fully linked

Google Technorati del.icio.us digg reddit
If you like this story, digg it!

Do you feel it?  Do you feel the prestige and power and wealth of the United States slipping away?  We now have an unequivocal answer to the question - What happens when people are unwary enough to give the right wing idealogues unrestrained power in all branches of government?

So much for Einstein the believer

Google Technorati del.icio.us digg reddit
If you like this story, digg it!

So many have argued for so long that Einstein actually believed in God and professed to be a "religious" person.  His use of the word "religious", he tried often to explain, was simply to describe the feelings of awe he experienced at the vastness and wonder of the universe.

His thoughts on religion itself, and the belief in God as described by religions, are made clear in a letter to philosopher Eric Gutkind in 1954 which goes up for auction this week in London.

Republican "high points" of the last seven years

If you like this story, digg it!
I feel the need to document some of the "accomplishments" of the Republican administration of the last 7 years.  This is no small task and I'd like some help.  I've composed a list of the things I can think of immediately, but the actual list is impossibly, ridiculously long.  Please add to the list with your comments below.  I reserve the right to steal suggestions you leave in this blog entry and use them in my continuing list!

This is how Republicans roll.

We've got the border fence, a Republican solution to the immigration issue.  We've got a rich wealthy Republican landowner whose country club property is directly in the path of the border fence, and who is a major contributor to Bush.  We've got many regular people whose property and homes are also in the path of the border fence.  Guess which property the border fence bypasses and which landowners are being served with lawsuits to confiscate their property?

The low point in the SOTU address

There was a part of the SOTU address that I haven't seen mentioned anywhere else that really fried my rear end.  I kept wondering if anyone else would talk about it but I've seen no reference to it.

I was wondering if this news was going to make it off the Huffington post into the mainstream media. It has, and that probably is the end of Huckabee as a candidate.

Pakistani shake and bake

Pakistan seems to be experiencing a shakeup today.  The president has declared a state of emergency and "suspended the constitution".  (I wonder how long it will be before Bush and Cheney do the same here?)

This sure didn't seem to get much notice by the press, but the Iraqis are making a move toward sovereignty and trying to call the shots.
