Personal Profile

Ben is the son of olive pickers from a small town in Southern Turkey...Oh, wait, that's Cenk. I'm always mixing us up. I'm the son of a powerful Democratic operative father and a near socialist mother who likes to proudly show all her Republican friends in Florida her ACLU membership card. In addition to co-hosting "The Young Turks," I also host movies on weekends on Turner Classic Movies, God's gift to cable television. Most of my early career was spent in sports television, which was excellent, and sports radio, which blew. After going to journalism school at Columbia University, I worked in Charleston, SC for five years as a news reporter and weekend anchor for the CBS affiliate. From there it was nearly three years in Miami as the host of a wonderful, irreverent and seldom-watched daily news magazine, "The Times," on WAMI-TV. I met Cenk at WAMI (he was the show's head writer). He was smart (OF COURRRRRSE), opinionated (hard to believe) and let's be honest, damn sexy. Before long, the two of us were in Los Angeles, days away from waiting tables and figured, "Well, we could keep auditioning for shows with names like 'Whip It Out,' or we could spent our days giving the world 38 reasons to loathe Rick Santorum. The choice was simple. Shortly thereafter, the universe bestowed Jill Pike upon us, and all was right with the world. However, shortly after that, George W. Bush "decidered" to invade Iraq, and all was once again wrong with the world. It is a pleasure to play a role -- however small -- in restoring a degree of truth, justice and above all else, reason, to a world gone mad. I'm married to an incredibly cool woman and own an incredibly dim dog. I love them both.
